Monday highlights – Cage Force in May

By Zach Arnold | April 29, 2007

Print Friendly and PDF

The IFL stock tumbled downwards on Monday, down to $3.00 USD/share. On January 24th (three months ago), this stock was at $16.50 USD/share. Your eyes are not deceiving you when you read that sentence.

The stock has plummeted 80% in three months.

Daizo Ishige vs. Dan Hardy booked for the Cage Force May 27th show in Tokyo at Differ Ariake (CF Welterweight tournament). Plus, Yoshiyuki Yoshida vs. Justin Turtle in a tournament match.

In the last week of so, Crave Online has been sending out e-mails to the various MMA sites with the following message:

CraveOnline owns the largest mixed martial arts website in the world, Sherdog.com. We would like to power an ultimate fighting news/content section on your site… we will provide via a licensed fee in whole or provide a free full function version whereby the visitor drill down ultimately comes to Sherdog for additional info.

The bigger picture with this story is what other companies will soon start buying out MMA news and blog sites. It’s been happening in the American political scene for the last year or so online, and I expect that trend to continue with the various MMA sites.

Onto today’s headlines.

For reference, the winner of Yoshida/Turtle moves on to face Akira Kikuchi in the semifinals, and the winner of Ishige/Hardy moves on to face Hidetaka Monma in the semifinals. The semis will most likely happen on September 8 with the finals on December 1.

Also, the ADCC superfight will now be Roger Gracie vs. Jon Olav Einemo, due to Arona pulling out with Dengue Fever. The ADCC committee voted 5-1 for Einemo over Monson as the replacement. Monson’s vote came from Mark David Robinson. This stuff just writes itself.

  2. I guess they’re going with the Gracie ‘revenge’ idea? One would imagine Monson would be the bigger draw but of course I’m sure they also had to take pay and 101 other details into account rather than just fighter popularity.

Fertittas take control of Pride tommorow. I’m sure we won’t hear anything for another week or two, but still a date worth mentioning.

Chuck Norris said Jesus/God was the greatest martial arts champion…and I am going to agree.

I suppose that would make Jordan Breen the greatest MMA scribe out there!

Good to see you’re giving Jordan Breen his dues, finally. 😀

  6. God laid down some serious beatdowns in the old testament. Jesus barely fought anyone and the Romans submitted him via crucifix pretty easily. It’s only the nuthuggers who think he’s gonna make a comeback.

Is it any secret why he is so beloved by Vitor Belfort?

  8. klown says:

I was enjoying the Chuch Norris piece until he went all Jesus-freak on my ass.

  9. Ian Dean says:

Hardy won this weekend in Nottingham Uk against the 13-3 Willy Ni. Looking forward to him fighting in Japan, and i’m confident he will pull out a win

  10. I really hope to god they throw the book at Ahrens.

Now I hope we ban the sport in Michigan. If just to get Dore, Helmkay and all the other fucking vampires out of the sport.

  11. PizzaChef says:

God and Jesus are the greatest MMA champions on earth. They put that extra fist behind Chuck Norris’ beard and gave Chuck his fatal roundhouse kicks and help give inspiration to Walker Texas Ranger (which inspired the Walker Texas Ranger lever on Conan O’Brien.)

And of course, everyone knows that he paid back God the favour by giving Jesus the gift of the beard.

Then I guess that makes me a Jesus nutlover.
But to be fair Rich Franklin and Randy Couture are Christians as well.

  13. There’s some interesting articles on Christianity and fighting actually … you can check em out HERE … just ignore the ‘Christian Wellish’ articles … I gotta upgrade my search function :-p
