Tuesday notes: Tito Ortiz is still talking

By Zach Arnold | April 17, 2007

Print Friendly and PDF

Keep your eyes open on the IFL stock. It’s down to $4.20/share.

New poll added to the right side of the page. Make sure to also listen to our latest radio show.

A press conference was held today in Tokyo at the Maru Pro gym in Nakano ward to promote an all-women’s MMA event called K-GRACE on 5/27 in Tokyo at Differ Ariake. Names listed for the event include Marloes Coenen, Roxanne Modafferi, Megumi Yabushita, and Gina Carano. The obvious question to ask (with Carano’s name listed for the 5/27 show) is whether or not she will be at the Dynamite USA show on 6/2 at the LA Coliseum.

Results from our last poll question: What fight rules should be used in the ‘new’ PRIDE?

Here are today’s headlines.

  1. Radio: Eddie Goldman’s NHB show with audio clips from the IFL Mohegan Sun Arena event
  2. Fight Report: Tito Ortiz does damage control on MMA Weekly radio
  3. MMA California: Gladiator Challenge 4/14 Lakeport event results
  4. The Arizona Wildcat Online: Police beat (a person uses MMA ‘practice’ as an excuse for having a fight)
  5. The Amherst Daily News: Tim Skidmore training for June MMA event in Halifax
  6. The Rochester Post-Bulletin: Travis Wiuff gets back on winning track
  7. The Saginaw News: MMA tournament gets too rough
  8. The Manchester Evening News (UK): Arena ready for Ultimate challenge on Saturday
  9. The Republican (MA): Big kickoff for MMA in Springfield
  10. NBC Sports: Andrei Arlovski focuses on his return to glory

  1. Liger05 says:

I would like to see Mariko Yoshida at the K Grace show.

  2. sebastian says:

Will Pro Elite keep signing fighters to non-exclusive contracts? Carano and Diaz are pretty tough loses.

  3. It’s gonna bite them in the ass for sure more than not. I wonder if the commissions will even allow a fighter to fight twice so soon.

  4. Royal B. says:

Leave it to a hot dog vendor to make things worse in Michigan.

D-LEG is bringing shame upon the state if they don’t regulate.

  5. By the way, I wrote an article on the Tito Ortiz – Dana White situation on my new blog. It’s not an ‘official’ part of my site yet but i thought i’d point it out to you guys since it’s the kind of opinion/analysis thing I think you’d like. Tell me what you think! I also posted up the UFC70 Media Preview on the main site … every single streaming video of the fighters on the main card.

  6. The Citizen says:

    Tito Ortiz = Idiot

  7. Rollo the Cat says:

So, have we stopped talking about the IFL Battleground show completely?

  8. 45 Huddle says:

The non exclusive contracts sound like a nice idea on paper, but is horrible when trying to implement. You just can’t run an MMA company like that. There is too much of a chance of upsets….

  9. 1000 Cent says:

IFL is at $4.00 a share? Is there anyway to buy IFL stock, and has anyone at this site thought about buying IFL stocks?

Oh, and how many stocks does IFL have? :D.

  10. D. Capitated says:

Will Pro Elite keep signing fighters to non-exclusive contracts? Carano and Diaz are pretty tough loses.

Because they’re not running the PRIDE business model? Yeah, Diaz is a real tough loss. He was last seen beating Takanori Gomi, PRIDE’s main lightweight draw. I’m sure Gary Shaw cries himself to sleep over that.

  11. 45 Huddle says:

I wouldn’t buy it. The stock will only go down from here.

52 Million shares out there. 3 people hace like 47%.

News is coming out that the HBO deal with the UFC has been inked…..

  12. Matt Boone says:

We got all the notes from today’s UFC conference call up at http://www.mmanews.com for those interested. RSS feed link is http://www.mmanews.com/rss.xml

  13. Tobin says:

I hope the IFL can turn the corner. Last nights show was pretty good. It seems as though these shows should have been airing before the season started, or at least build up to what is coming not what has happened.

  14. Body_Shots says:

“First, Dana was asked to update talks between the UFC and HBO. Dana said that the UFC will be on HBO this summer. He didn’t expound. I was able to get on the line again and ask several followup questions and really grill Dana. I asked him specifically if he meant a deal was close or if a deal was signed, sealed, and delivered. Dana said said “the UFC will be on HBO this summer.” I reiterated my question by saying, “Can we officially report that the UFC will be on HBO?” Dana repeated, “The UFC will be on HBO this summer.”

Sounds like to me it’s a done deal! However, Dana later said the HBO deal isn’t signed and he’s just being cocky by saying it will happen.

Dana said it’s been a long hard road with getting a deal done with HBO but he’s finally comfortable with the deal that’s now in place. Dana revealed that HBO will be doing the production. He was asked about the announcers and said it won’t be Goldberg and Rogan, it will be HBO announcers. When asked if it would be Jim Lampley, Dana laughed and said “no way” and also ruled out Larry Merchant’s rule in a potential UFC telecast. No announcers for UFC telecasts have been decided.”

  15. Rollo the Cat says:

Good to know that Pride isn’t changing. Except for ownership, soccer kicks, stomps, elbows, knees, rounds, time limits, testing, weight classes, matchmaking, and probably a few more minor issues. Thanks Dana.

  16. PizzaChef says:

    F**king Dana…….This isin’t good at all.

  17. David S says:

Dana is not stupid. Matter of fact, you guys are retarded for getting butt hurt over things that haven’t even happened yet ahah! Relax and wait; take a few tokes if you can’t relax on your own! 😉
