Thursday tabloid: Kiyoshi Tamura heading to HERO’s
By Zach Arnold | March 14, 2007
I’ve decided to use Feedburner for the RSS feeds. I will add these links and recommend you use them as opposed to the raw WP feeds on our site now, and hopefully the FeedBurner podcasting feed works out fine. Here are the links to use:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/fightopinion – RSS for posts
http://feeds.feedburner.com/fightopinion/qHJU – RSS for comments
I’m using SmartCast on FeedBurner for the radio shows, but I’m not sure if it’s active or working. If anyone out there is smart on this issue, leave a comment here and let me know what links or steps I need to take to make sure everyone can start using it.
Also, I want to change the skin here for WordPress. Contribute some suggestions to a WP skin that you would like to see implemented here, and I shall do it.
What a pathetic online posting this is. Listen, no one has a problem with anyone criticizing Jake Rossen as a writer. Criticize or analyze his articles all you want. However, regarding what was written in that Underground Forum posting… This is the same kind of moronic logic used in professional wrestling by pro-wrestlers who attack the wrestling writers for criticizing a bad match because “you never took a bump in your life.” Whoever wrote that posting, you’re only making yourself look silly. Stop being a mark and a self-promoter. That posting is the perfect example of what the mainstream American public will always use against MMA fighters, portraying them as being barbarians and thugs because they can’t respond to written criticism in a civilized manner.

“NO HOLDS BARRED is free to listen to and is sponsored by:
IFL, the International Fight League”
Eddie Goldman, there is a phrase used in professional journalism called “conflict of interest”. You know, if the UFC inked some business arrangements with Goldman the way Meyerwitz and the IFL did, maybe Goldman save some of the whitewash for them too.
As for the IFL, I’d like some more self-flagellation, please. I won’t be impressed unless there’s an apology on the next Battleground, the “casual fans that loved the show”, need to know that if they want to see sports and stretchers, they should tune into NASCAR.
It’s hard to tell whether that Sherdog Forums post was made by Jerry/Gary Millen or just a big fan of Millen’s. Regardless, the person who made that post trying to portray the Jerry/Gary Millen situation as “BAS RUTTEN AS PLAYED YOU ALL FOR FOOLS” is, himself, a fool. If Millen’s problems were strictly limited to Bas Rutten, that would be one thing, but Millen has also had problems with Mauro Ranallo and Stephen Quadros, both of whom are good broadcasters with good reputations.
There’s a way of ending a business relationship that’s both professional and equitable in any industry, unfortunately Jerry Millen doesn’t understand that. He just reeks of someone who worked in PR before switching over to MMA and unfortunately it’s cheaping not only MMA but more importantly the Pride brand name.
Honestly who would want to work or associate themselves with this guy? I haven’t seen a person try to commit career suicide this quickly since Art Davie.
But it isn’t all his fault, there was some gross negligence committed by the person who hired him in the first place.
Will we finally see Saku vs Tamura now?
Will we finally see Saku vs Tamura now?Hopefully. A few years ago I would’ve said Saku, but today I’m going with Tamura
Arrrgh, Griffin out. Was waiting for people to start pulling out after all the UFC cards were finalized yesterday though. It’s the curse of planning ahead.
“A: We’re switching to June.
Q: Do you have a specific date for that?
A: I do, I just can’t talk about it, yet. I’m not permitted. It’s going to be beyond EliteXC and it’s something you’ll be excited about.”
— Okidokes, joint PPV with Strikeforce and Baroni – Shamrock in June then 🙂
A small IFL tidbit from TVsquad:
“In other ratings news, MyNet kicked off their new schedule with the International Fight League. The network is moving away from the telenovela format to a new schedule that includes two movie nights and IFL Mondays. So far, so good, as the mixed martial arts program saw a 61% increase in viewers over the sweeps average for the primetime soaps. I watched a bit of it, but the whole team concept didn’t do a lot for me. If I am going to watch MMA, I’d rather watch the UFC on Spike.”

No love for my Shooto preview? W. sauce.

Want to see Tamura v Saku but it seems this fight can never be made.
Kev,
I agree with you about Eddie Goldman’s conflict of interest. His IFL sponsorship really detracts from his criticism of rival organizations, (notably UFC), which is a real shame, because I believe there is much to critique about UFC and other MMA promotions and media coverage, and I think Goldman does an excellent job.
I expressed this opinion to him directly by leaving a message on his myspace page, and I suggest you do the same. He’s a pretty accessible guy, and hopefully he will respond to sustained criticism from fans. He replied to me, saying he understands my concern, but unfortunately, he needs the sponsorship.
Somebody out there please sponsor Eddie Goldman so he can free of IFL! And he can return to being the conscience of combat sports.

That’s tacky as shit.

Get excited, kiddies.
Great job as always Jordan.
The new Eddie Goldman radio show was very entertaining. He laid into Kurt Otto in a way that Sherdog/MMA Weekly didn’t. Very good interview.
Zach:
Breen’s a great writer – you link to FAAAAAAAAAR inferior CRAP everyday. Hell you seem to have a great affinity for linking to Sherdog’s forums with their idiotic mutants in an effort to make PRIDE fans in general look retarded…it shouldn’t be too taxing to actually provide a link to some good articles about mma.
As a buddy of mine and I were saying tonite – if you don’t know about Shooto, you’re really not an “mma” fan. Don’t make JB have to look like a spammer and advertise in the comments!!
To FO’s credit, most MMA fans check MMA Weekly & Sherdog daily. I peep this site for lesser known links.
