  1. Jordan Breen says:

    Jurij Kiselov is President.

  2. Stu says:

Fujita in the main event? What is the world coming to?

  3. JOSH says:

well what other Japanese star would headline? Im hearing Yoshida hasnt been feeling well to fight so who else is there?

  4. The Gaijin says:

Just read about Inside the UFC being cancelled…is this any sort of indication that the general public has reached a saturation point with either the UFC or mma (in general) exposure on tv??

Does that type of situation bode well for the recent TV deals for IFL or rumoured tv deal that Fishman keeps talking about for PRIDE should he be able to purchase them?

  5. Royal B. says:

The interview would have been better if Straka actually did it.

I hate edited pieces of garbage like that.

  6. jacob says:

Zach, could you do an article or quick summary or something about the employee structure of DSE in America?

You’ve frequently stated Hideki Yamamoto & Yukino Kanda as the “US office bosses” of PRIDE. Then around December you mentioned that the two of them were replaced by Jerry Millen and Turi Altavilla as the new US office bosses (Jerry was the US PRIDE producer and Turi Altaviilla was vice president of production before then)

However on numerous news sites it’s reported that Ed Fishman is the PRIDE USA president. How does he fit in with Millen, Altavilla, Yamamoto and Kanda? What are his responsibilities, compared to Millen and Altavilla? If he’s president, what does that make Millen and Altavilla?

  7. Mike says:

What’s with the interviewer in the Fox News clip rattling off first names like everyone should know them? “Would you bring Fedor into the UFC?” “what about Shogun vs Chuck?” Works fine for readers of this site, but for a Fox News viewer that’s gibberish.

  8. CapnHulk says:

That Chuck Liddell interview is hilarious.

  9. Zach Arnold says:

Fishman is the contracted promoter for PRIDE USA. He promotes the events through the casinos in Las Vegas. He’s in charge for bringing people into the seats to watch the shows.

Jerry Millen is in charge of all TV production.

Turi Altavilla is in charge of the web site and also with other ‘office’ duties. He is pretty much the utility man.

Kanda and Yamamoto left shortly after the first PRIDE Las Vegas show. Funny how people started leaving once the Fuji TV deal got cut off…

  10. Jordan Breen says:

“Just read about Inside the UFC being cancelled…is this any sort of indication that the general public has reached a saturation point with either the UFC or mma (in general) exposure on tv??”

Honestly, I’d say it’s because the show eats a big bag of dicks. I make time to watch European amateur Shooto, and I can’t even be assed to watch Inside the UFC.

  11. Zach Arnold says:

Honestly, I’d say it’s because the show eats a big bag of dicks.

This is a family web site. Wash your mouth out with soap.

  12. klown says:

Why is Sakuraba fighting a Ukrainian unknown with a 0-2 record (against the same fighter)???

  13. Royal B. says:

He has to do something to gain ratings.

Would you rather him juggle poodles?

  14. Royal B. says:

Aren’t Spike and Comedy Central both under Viacom?

  15. The Gaijin says:

    klown:

Unless you’ve got some unspecified vendetta against Saku, I think it’s time they gave him a bit of a refresher fight. Seeing as he was almost killed his last two appearances in the ring and in the 2nd one he fought K-1’s equivalent to “greased up deaf guy” from Family Guy whilst receiving his thrashing.

  16. The Gaijin says:

    JBreen:

Fair comment. Honestly I never really watched much of the show outside of the (unintentionally) hilarious Joe Rogan shrieking like a girl from Moesha – I think I’m using too many stupid pop culture references….

For the most part it did seem like a bit of a fluffer piece on UFC fighters, but on the flip side it wasn’t a terrible idea to give fighters more face time and make them seem more “real”.

  17. Jordan Breen says:

“Why is Sakuraba fighting a Ukrainian unknown with a 0-2 record (against the same fighter)???”

    1) The guy claims a 14-10-somethingelse record. He’s probably been fighting bums in Eastern European garages for years.

    2) Jurij “Playboy” Kiselov. Just read that a few times.

You need to look up his last HERO’S Lithuania fight on youtube. Hilarity.

  18. Ivan Trembow says:

Thoughts on the Fox interview: “Shogun just popped onto the scene” ? Well, that’s better than “nobody knows who the hell Shogun is.”

I also think that anyone who saw the Carano vs. Kedzie fight would disagree with the statement, “I just don’t know if people are ready to see the girls.”

On the other hand, it was good to see someone in an official capacity acknowledge in an interview that Kurt Angle is not in good shape and is “pretty banged up.” (Now if only Dixie Carter would acknowledge that.)

Finally, lol at the interviewer asking about FEEE-dor.

  19. Ivan Trembow says:

“Aren’t Spike and Comedy Central both under Viacom?”

Yes, they are both under the umbrella of MTV Networks, which is owned by Viacom.

  20. klown says:

    Jordan Breen,

I can’t find any of the Playboy’s fights on youtube. Got a link?

    Thanks.

  21. Preach says:

There’s an h missing in the adress for Kiselov’s picture, Zach.

And where the hell is K1 digging up these guys? Are they trying to up Pride by recruiting russian mobsters? The guy looks like a pimp from Hamburg’s red light district, the Reeperbahn. Saku better get himself some “protection”, or he’ll get whacked after the fight, regardless of its outcome…

  22. MMA Geek says:

I also think that anyone who saw the Carano vs. Kedzie fight would disagree with the statement, “I just don’t know if people are ready to see the girls.”

Mainstream America still has a hard-time stomaching MMA fighting in general. For every fan of UFC you find, you’ll probably find 20 people who still think its human cockfighting. Its fine for women to fight on smaller shows at this juncture, but Dana is right in that the mainstream ain’t ready for it yet and a high-profile woman’s fight could be bad for the sport. This is not a criticism of women’s abilities. Just the comment on the state of the industry.
