I’m interested in the Mac Danzig opening movie since he was talking about what PRIDE forced him to do. 🙁
Also the production values suck. Please someone just kick Jerry Millen in the face for me.
GODDAMN! THat was a GREAT FIGHT!
tons of empty seats, but I saw the same thing at the first show. unfortunately, lots of the filled seats here aren’t paid for like they were at show #1.
When’s the Turkey On The Pole match?
There is so much to say and so few words to say about what just happened to Kazuo Misaki. Great work, PRIDE.
Going from the IFL to PRIDE wasn’t such a good idea there for young Travis.
*chases after Misaki with a comforter*
This is so much better the that sham of a show Dore is selling.
HOLY FUCK!!!!!! SOUKAJOU PWN3D NOGUEIRA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111 I LITERALLY LOL’D MY TESTICLES OFF!
Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (-2001) = 5%
Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou (+1601) = 1601%
Goddamn…whoever decided to bet on Sokoudjou just got a lot richer. Mad props to Thierry. He did something that Sakuraba and Shogun couldn’t do in 3 rounds.
Pride has successfully destroyed so many potential $$$ fights tonight, and the night is young..
the worst, they did it for no benefit whatsoever…
O_o
Mmmmm…I think Danzig did a good job to not trash talk like what Millen told him to do. Well good compromise since he said he made a compromise.
This truly has to be last PRIDE show ever. No other promotion would book the mismatches they did tonight, creating scenarios like this. There’s *no* upside to Frank Trigg beating Misaki. There’s *no* upside for Sokoudjou winning. What a disaster.
Last PRIDE show you in USA you mean, right? Also, if Gomi doesn’t come out to the Mad Capsule Markets then I’m going to be pissed.
Has there ever been a fighter with higher betting odds who has won like Sokoudjou did? I seriously doubt it.
PRIDE has a show on 4/8 at Saitama Super Arena and then 4/28 in Vegas. At this rate with the empty seats and the bizarre outcomes, tied in with the gang wars happening in Japan right now, wow… is this going to be difficult to run in Japan or what.
another huge odds win was Karaev(Vegas GP, 2005)
he was +2500 for the tourney at some places.
I am a big fan of Lon McEachern and Josh Barnett as a commentary duo. Two very-well spoken guys.
Zach Arnold a fan of Josh Barnett. shocking.
Barnett is a natural in front of the camera, no wonder he is a natural behind the mic….
He’s doing better than I thought he would on color.
And Danzig gets face planted.
JUDO BE STRONGEST!
Pleasantly surprised at this PPV so far. Expecting crap, and it has been very exiciting.
Little Nogueira should not be a Top 10 Heavyweight anymore. His biggest wins are over Alistair Overeem. Beyond that, he does not have any big wins over any fighters.
And Misaki losing really does look bad for Pride. Both GSP & Hughes absolutely dominated Hughes at 170 lbs. The only thing worse for Pride is is Nick Diaz dominates Takanori Gomi. That would look very bad since the UFC Champion, Sean Sherk, has a win over Diaz (30-27 on all 3 judges cards).
Aw man.
I didn’t know Kahritonov was going to be the turkey.
It looks to be one of those nights where you’ll have people saying the show quality was acceptable, but the outcomes were damaging for the company.
Shogun must of watched a LOT of Fedor tapes to land something like that!
Thank goodness for Shogun winning.
Now all we need is for something really crazy to happen in the Hendo-Silva fight.
Like the ring collapsing.
Pride just lost tons of stock with the first round of Gomi vs. Diaz. Gomi was getting wrecked at the end of the round.
This is the same Diaz who lost to the UFC Lightweight Champion.
This is also proof of how horrible MMA Weekly’s Top 10 rankings are. Sherk at #10? The Pride Light Heavyweights (Top 4) being ranked above every UFC Light Heavyweight besides Liddell? Proof of the garbage that is those rankings.
Pride has successfully destroyed itself….
When I wrote about Diaz vs. Gomi in my Boxing Scene article, my greatest fear was that the “UFC top class fighter” (as they billed Diaz, who may be 6th or 7th in UFC’s 170-pound division based on your personal preferences) would give Gomi such trouble. Plus, Diaz’s weak striking wouldn’t score under normal PRIDE rules but *could* score points under NSAC rules. Gomi needs a KO here now.
BJ Penn is the #1 Lightweight in the world. Sean Sherk is the #2 Lightweight in the world.
LMAO @ the Pride bias. GONE IT IS!!! GONE!!!!
MOTHER OF FUCK….THat IS BAD FOR PRIDE>
Worse Hulk.
Druids.
With a coffin.
OK, the Titanic is officially sinking right now.
If it wasn;t for Sakikabara’s big mouth, making this a Pride v UFC issue, they could work with these results and spin them favorably. But if image is everything in Japan, they are n trouble.
no, no, you see this is what they wanted.
They are building their American nobodies/rejects into stars by having them shockingly upset their international talent.
It’s all a master plan to make Pride an America-based MMA company.
🙂
There is no way they can spin Misaki and Gomi losing tonight as a positive in Japan. Misaki loses to a guy in Trigg who hasn’t fought in PRIDE since 1999 and is known for mainly losing to Hughes and GSP. Gomi loses to a guy who UFC didn’t want to keep around because their 170-pound division is so stacked right now. Image *is* everything in Japan. And I disagree with the sentiments of those who think that upset losses automatically mean new stars are born.
Wanderlei Silva is a paper champion. Mauricio Rua is actually the best in the division.
Dan Henderson is a paper champion. Paulo Filho is actually the best in the division.
Takanori Gomi is a paper chaampion. Nick Diaz is actually the best in the division.
Without Fedor, it is a paper organization. Oh wait, Fedor is off fighting for Bodog. Perhaps never to return? Who knows.
All of the casual fans I know already perceive Pride has the minor leagues compared to Pride. It is unfair, but that is the casual fan perception. This would only make it worse. People know who Nick Diaz is. Seeing him beating the Pride Champion looks horrible to any casual fans who ordered the event.
If this were a movie, I’d say we’re coming to Beat Takeshi’s big scene in SONATINE.
Except Sakikabara is playing the part.
I can’t believe PRIDE is using the Japanese logic again of A > B > C, meaning A > C here with this whole Silva beat Jackson who beat Liddell deal here. This is the same stupid logic that they used to say Gomi vs. Diaz is “PRIDE vs. UFC” in the Japanese media.
MMAth.
I think the only way they’ll attempt at putting a positive spin on this is throw insults at the UFC for letting go of Diaz and try to make Diaz the face of PRIDE in the USA or some weird shit.
Honest questions for Ivan Trembow:
You are part of the MMA Weekly Top 10. This is the same Top 10 that CBS Sportsline uses.
1. Sean Sherk has a win over Diaz who just slaughtered Takanori Gomi. How do you rank Sherk now? He has to be ranked above Diaz, who will in turn be ranked above Gomi.
2. Doesn’t this kind of make the Top 10 basically pointless? Good logic would say Sherk is the #1 Lightweight based on these results. But having the #10 ranked Lightweight move up to #1 kind of discredits your entire system, doesn’t it?
3. Don’t you think World Rankings are basically unfair since fighters have exclusive contracts? Only rankings by organization make any sense.
If Silva can’t beat Henderson, I expect harakiri to be committed at any time.
Night of upsets….I bet PRIDE will try to redeem themselves by giving rematches but in Japan with THEIR rules.
congrats Henderson….
Pride shot itself in the face multiple times tonight.
Henderson KO’s Silva.
Diaz submits Gomi.
Trigg beats Misaki.
Any credibility of Pride having the best fighters is OVER!!!!!! OVER!!!!!! OVER!!!!!
Silva isn’t even worthy of a Liddell fight right now. That is 2 losses in a row.
