  1. Stu says:

Zach could you shed some light on this blog post, http://www.plus-blog.sportsnavi.com/dreamnisijima/article/11
Is it legit and if so is Brandon Vera going to fight for PRIDE in February?

  2. Zach Arnold says:

It claims that Brandon Vera will participate in PRIDE’s 2007 Middleweight tournament (this means he’s going to 205?) and his debut will happen on the PRIDE 2/24 Las Vegas show.

I don’t know if it’s true or not. It’s a blog site hosted by the Sports Navigator server, so it’s not an official report. However, given Vera and his manager talking loudly about considering fighting outside of UFC, it wouldn’t surprise me. Not exactly the smartest fighter politically.

  3. Mr. Roadblock says:

Trigg said Silva’s opponent in Vegas was going to shock people. Could it be Vera at 205?

I can’t imagine UFC letting him get away. He might be the most exciting fighter on the roster at least in terms of finishing fights. He star potential and they need him to get the belt away from John Ruiz, I mean Tim Sylvia.

  4. mose says:

Vera has stated he has one fight left on his UFC contract, so I don’t see how he could fight for Pride in February.

  5. The MMA Critic says:

The UFC 67 show (February) is sub-par. Even with 2 title fights and the debut of Rampage, I am not excited for this card. I am more pumped for UFN in January.

Brandon Vera is young and dumb. If you are Mirko Filipovic, you can play the field like a fiddle. If you are Brandon Vera, you are going to just piss off the UFC. Not too smart when they are buying up MMA organizations like it is their day job.

Silva vs. Vera would make sense for the UFC. He isn’t too big of a star that he would get a lot of casual fans. And he hasn’t beaten anybody too important that a loss would hurt the UFC’s image. And if he wins, he would be able to bring the belt back to the UFC and have a fight with Liddell for the unified belt.

  6. Jordan Breen says:

That blog actually has no affiliation to Sportsnavi themselves as a journalistic entity, it is simply a member blog of Sportsnavi’s own blog service. If I recall correctly, that same blog reported that Ogawa was going to fight at Fumetsu the other day in a post which has now been removed from the blog. It is much more than likely just a troll.

  7. JOSH says:

lol UFC Ohio1 is the worst name of ANYTHING ever.

  8. KennyP says:

Is the Ohio UFC event the first UFC card to take place in a state with more restrictive weigh-in procedures? (Since the UFC seems to be in no hurry to return to Atlantic City.) I would guess that Rich Franklin would be among the fighters most adversely affected by the O.A.C. rules.

  9. MMA T-Shirts says:

I’ll wait to see what Vera actually does before I call him stupid… You could quite easily argue the exact opposite.
