  1. Xenos says:

So far, this is an absolutely terrible event. The commentating is decent, but I wish those two random dudes would shut the hell up and let Jeff Osborne talk more.

  2. Zach Arnold says:

Jeff is a great guy. Who are the other commentators with him?

  3. Xenos says:

No idea, I forgot their names, sorry. One of them is a Canadian fighter I think.

  4. TOny says:

The play by play man is Lon McEachern (he is also the play by play man for ESPN’s World Series of Poker). I’m not sure who the other colour commentator is.

McEachern is actually not too bad…he’s not great, but at least he’s passable.

The night as a whole has been pretty dreadful…a mistake to put a US vs Russia themed PPV on in Vancouver.

  5. Zach Arnold says:

McEachern and Osborne as a duo would be good. 3-man booth… not a good idea.

For years, McEachern did all of the K-1 Las Vegas PPVs. I can’t believe K-1 isn’t in the position that Bodog is in right now in the US marketplace.

  6. Xenos says:

Alright, so this third commentator is Paul Lazenby.

  7. The Gaijin says:

Junior Silva v. Pele was a terrible stoppage….TERRIBLE. That ref fucked any inkling they had of pushing Silva v. Fedor as a viable fight. Silva was dominating, almost had him KO’d and then Pele fell(jumped?) outta the ring and got a break; got a 30sec breather for a questionable groin shot and then was close to getting stopped along the ropes and pulled a hail mary that dropped Silva – landed some shots in Silva’s guard (who was intelligently defending imo) and the ref STOPPED IT!!

    Pele v. Fedor anyone?? LoL

Roger Gracie looked pretty impressive in subbing Waterman at just shy of the 3:00 mark of the 1st round via armbar.

  8. I did not see the event. However, I am reading across multiple forums that the Gracie/Waterman fight looked fishy. Like it could have been a work. I know the PPV timeslot was supposed to end soon when the fight took place. Anybody who viewed the PPV think this?

  9. The Gaijin says:

I don’t think it was fishy…classic wrestler (i.e. Coleman/Randleman/Waterman) vs. jiu jitsu match
TD a BJJ/Sub-specialist and don’t rain down heavy g’n’p –> allow multiple openings for sub (re:armbar)…muscle out 1-2 times –> same stupid mistake and caught b/c gassed already.

  10. Xenos says:

I wanted to see the damned Riley vs Alvarez fight.

  11. The Gaijin says:

Sorry…I fucked up on the time…It was actually @ 3:38 of the 1st round – I thought that was how much time was left – my bad.

  12. Luxury Liner says:

    two words: Biff Naked!

  13. JOSH says:

To be honest beating Waterman isnt impressive in anyones book. But Biff Naked is HOT!!!

  14. The Gaijin says:

    JOSH:
To beat someone as experienced as Waterman, who had a ~50lb. weight advantage in your FIRST fight….I think that’s pretty impressive, imho.

I realized he’s(Waterman) not going to challenge for titles etc…but its a pretty good one to tuck under your belt for 1-0.

  15. JOSH says:

OK looking at it that way I guess ur right. Yet this isnt really Gracie’s first fight just his first professional figth. I still see Waterman as a above average can BUT a can none the less.

  16. StreitigKaiser says:

Roger Gracie is just that damn good, the guy is an ADCC champ and probably the best submission fighter in the Gracie family right now, he merely lived up to the hype. Also take note of the fighter Vladimir Zenin, he is probably the #1 russian lightweight right now with 8 wins and 1 loss, he schooled Nick Agallar.

  17. Mr. Roadblock says:

Roger could really make a run in this sport. He has all the talent and the build to do it.

  18. Jeff says:

THe event in truth was dreadful for the most part. The crowd was small and not into the event, many of the fights were terribly boring, and the production was as cheezy as their TV show. Alvarez Riley was pre-empted for a crappy rock band. It was their first show so they have plenty of time to improve, especially with all of the great fighters they’ve signed like Yves Edwards, the Emelianenko bros, Carina Damm and Roman Zentsov.

The females put on the fight of the night. Zenin looked great. Eric Pele vs Antoni Silva was stopped too soon.

  19. MMA T-Shirts says:

    Silva stoppage was horrible.

I’m not sure I was watching the same Zennin though…. well, half watching anyway. I saw him get peppered with leg kicks then basically get a 1 punch KO.

  20. Kevin says:

Horrible event. I think Lon McEachern was the only professional thing about the production. The band sucked, and people didn’t buy tickets/ppv to see that crap. Just a terrible event from the bottom up. Bif Naked (ugly chick with mic) was so annoying I had to change the channel everytime she stepped into the ring. And Calvin is worse than Dana with his shameless self promo in every other cut scene. I just can’t believe Fedor would want anything to do with these guys.

  21. SB says:

It was just god awful and too long. Annoyin bif naked who just should have got naked so atleast maybe seeing the rest of her tattoos would have been more interesting than this show. It made the last bushido show look like the best show of the year. Only thing to note is there is hope for the Gracie clan in Roger. Ready for Fedor like Paul Lazenby seemed to be thinkin out loud….god no! But hope nonetheless.

  22. Red Devil says:

every time Red Devil has one of these USA v Russia promotions, Red Devil has had their arse kicked big time. its been about 3-4 events in a row (they used to do this on the east coast in an event called ecstasy or euphoria or some other stupid name)

other than fedor and his bro, red devil seems pretty damned short of competitive talent – and yes, i am counting zentsov, semenov and suloev in that

  23. Zach Arnold says:

every time Red Devil has one of these USA v Russia promotions, Red Devil has had their arse kicked big time.

So what is the true depth level in terms of young talen that RD has?

Send me an e-mail with some more information.

  24. superhaloman says:

On the whole it was a bad show, but the semenov v. prangley fight was a brilliantly brutal brawl. That fight was awesome, one of the best of the year. Both guys went for the fininsh. Semenov landed a number of hard punches, but prangley answered right back.

  25. JThue says:

On setup and production this was a better debut show than what IFL and WFA did last year. The announcing team was basically shockingly solid and knew their stuff. Great to listen to Osborne again, and I thought having a play-by-play announcer with fighting knowledge was illegal these days 😀 Only embarrassing things coming from them was Lazenby claiming Bob Sapp has excellent conditioning, and the claims that the arena was sold with people being turned away, even though all the empty seats were clearly visible throughout the broadcast.

Oh, and once again we have an MMA-promotion that doesn’t act like wrestling doesn’t exist. Waterman announced as a “WWE legendary fighter” was a bit over the top though 😀

Some dull fights, but there was an impressive quality of fighters. Women’s fight was off the hook tremendous. Gracie looked impressive, and Pele – Silva sets up a fun rematch.

I like the way they include the fighter-video into the actual entrance, and have the same music play throughout.

Pretty much everything non-fight-related(aka the bif Naked segments) was awful.

All in all this PPV has gotten me interested in checking out their next season.
