Brandon Vera vs Frank Mir at UFC 65

By Stephan | August 8, 2006

Print Friendly and PDF

By Stephan Marceau

Updated the title to reflect the confirmation that this is now scheduled for UFC 65. Originally Brandon Vera’ site is the one that misled me to think it was at 62, the site has subsequently been updated to reflect that the fight is scheduled for UFC 65

That seems rather fast for Frank Mir, as he just fought in 61. However, it is splashed right on brandonvera.com (top right corner). This is good for Brandon, as this should solidify his reputation. This should be fun to watch, but it is a real mismatch. I don’t give Frank much of a chance. The “new” Frank has not been able to muster much since his accident, losing to Pe Da Pano, and a poor showing to Christison (the decision could have gone either way).

What I read in this mismatch is that maybe the UFC was not too happy with Frank’s last performance and would set him free after this — like they did to Paul Buentello.

  1. MMA T-Shirts says:

This has saved the card… there are now 2 fights in which I care who wins 🙂

  2. cjfighter says:

I think this works out well for the UFC either way. It gives one fighter a win over a quality opponent and gets him a little closer to a title shot. If Mir loses then he’s on his way out, if Vera loses then he gets to make a come back.

  3. MMA T-Shirts says:

Guys, looks like this one is UFC 63 not 62… card officially sucks again 😛

  4. MMA T-Shirts says:

argh, god damn it… i dunno who to believe now 😛

MMA Weekly says 63 anyway, so dont blame meeeeeeee 😀

  5. Stephan says:

Well…63 makes more sense…for Mir…maybe he can trim down a bit and be as swift as he used to be 🙂

  6. Stephan says:

Guys, Brandon’s site now says 65?!? Who knows?! 😐

  7. StreitigKaiser says:

I think Mir was overated to begin with, Ian Freeman showed us all that. Both Mir, Justin Eilers and Paul Buentello are completely uninspired fighters, that represent a failed attempt by UFC to build a domestic base of Heavyweight fighters, luckily Dana wised up and is now importing more qualified heavyweights. I hope Mir gets KTFO by Vera and seals this chapter.

  8. […] Stephan Marceau over at FightOpinion.com was the first to note the upcoming fight between Brandon Vera and Frank Mir. FightOpinion.com lists the fight as coming at the upcoming UFC 62, however the BrandonVera.com homepage says the fight will happen at UFC 65. Brandon Vera fights in UFC 65 Brandon Vera vs. Frank Mir (former UFC Heavy Weight Champion) […]

  9. David says:

You should check your facts a little better. This will happen at UFC 65.

  10. TeQuieroMami says:

What about if Mir kicks Vera’s ass. All he has to do is get in shape….Vera will be gone from the UFC then.

  11. MMA T-Shirts says:

“All Mir has to do is get in shape” 😀 Good luck with that 😀

Anyway, after underestimating Vera (because of what I thought was a not particularly impressive debut against Scherner), Vera has pissed all over his competition, putting away his last two opponents quicker than Arlovski and Sylvia did… the guy is no joke.

  12. Carson Wells says:

I don’t think they’ll shoe him after just one loss within the organization (Vera). They’ll just turn it into another “road back” story.

  13. PizzaChef says:

David, STFU. He got this off BRANDON VERA’S WEBSITE. They originally stated UFC 62. So maybe you should your own damn facts first before typing sh*t!
