Resolution between Mirko & PRIDE?

By Zach Arnold | August 7, 2006

Vecernji List reports (translated on Sherdog) that a resolution between PRIDE & Mirko Cro Cop may have been reached. The dispute between Mirko and PRIDE involved money, more specifically whether or not he would get paid fight money for two fights if he won his first fight against Vanderlei Silva and then the open-weight GP finals.

  1. Lynchman says:

I can’t help but wonder is this a resolution for the tourny, or is this a long term contract between Mirio and Pride?

  2. Donut62 says:

Mirko has never had a long term contract with Pride, he goes on a fight-to-fight basis. He could pack up shop and leave whenever he wants, which is how he was able to pull this one off on DSE.

  3. Diamond Dave Williams says:

Again, Donut has no clue. Mirko was on a 5 fight contract just 3 years ago with Pride. Although Pride does not publicize its contracts, does anyone feel that a talent like Mirko would have fought in and out of Pride over the past few years if he did not have an exclusive deal with them. Wake up Donut and have a coffee.

  4. Zach Arnold says:

It should be noted that Mirko often has weird contractual agreements with PRIDE, and nothing really is ever set in stone. He does what he want on his terms.

  5. Donut62 says:

No clue again? I posted earlier that Pride had met Mirko’s demands, and Zach confirmed the same thing using the same source I posted. Zach is right, Mirko is pretty much on his own terms for each fight. He fought Mark Hunt, Remy Bojansky, and Bob Sapp in K-1 while fighting for Pride FC 3 years ago. He chose to concentrate on MMA after losing to Noguiera, and has stated that his professional goal right now is to hold the Pride belt.

  6. Diamond Dave Williams says:

Yes Donut, no clue again. He was concentrating on MMA prior to fighting Heath Herring. If Mirko was clearly on his own, he would be jumping organizations for the largest payday. Being arguably one of the biggest draws in MMA, he could fight with any organization, if he was free to do so. Obviously Mirko is in it for the money. Join us in the real world Donut.

  7. Donut62 says:

…and he threatened to accept an offer from the WFA if Pride did not accept his demands to be paid for his second fight. I don’t see how Mirko would have been able to pull this manuever so effectively if he was locked into a contract with DSE.

  8. Diamond Dave Williams says:

Donut, I believe you stated that he has never had a long term contract? I am stating that a 3 fight deal is considered long term. Not to mention not all contracts are structured equally. Move on and try to produce well thought out answers.
