UFC 61 – here’s the buzz

So I wrote a post a few days ago asking where the buzz was for the UFC 61 show. To be fair, here’s the mainstream coverage that the show is getting:

The Washington Post story is more garbage for morons.
They repeat the lies about there being no weight classes, doctors, etc., in UFC before Dana White:
“UFC President Dana White and Zuffa LLC took over in 2001 and since then the UFC has tightened its rules and restrictions. It banned elbowing, head-butting and knee strikes to the head while on the ground, introduced weight classes and implemented various other protections, such as referee training, and mandatory fight doctors.”
They attack submissions:
“But the fights, which take place in a caged octagon and are normally set for three or five five-minute rounds, early on alienated the average viewer with both its grappling aspect and the ability to win via submission.”
I hope after reading this that people NEVER believe anything else that this newspaper writes without first checking it out for themselves.
Careful now – UFC might trademark the word “submission” before you know it. 🙂
Funny enough – if you read the byline on the WP article, it was a freelancer who wrote it and not a staff writer.
They are supposed to have editors and fact-checkers. When I freelanced for Penthouse, they certainly did. But all these guys do is read all the rest of the nonsense in the obsolete print media, and ignore us on the Internet who really know what’s going on. More young people have figured this out, which is why one writer even predicted the date of the printing of the last newspaper: 2040.
And I don’t think UFC wants to trademark “submission”. Judging from their attitude, they seem to dislike them and strive to resemble junior boxing even more.
The article’s just another example of the media falling for the Zuffa myth. This is getting real old, real fast.
Its the media’s own fault for not doing proper fact-checking. It doesn’t make it right that Zuffa lies about who implemented the changes in UFC, but promoters like to exaggorate, and lie, so it doesn’t surprise me that Dana White claims responsibility for changes he didn’t make.
