It’s 1985 all over, again

The Ultimate Fighter 3 finale show on Spike TV last Saturday night drew a 2.04 cable rating, blowing away all expectations. The UF3 show was panned for not having enough “star power” with Kenny Florian vs. Sam Stout in the main event, but all criticism was clearly blown away by the strong ratings numbers.

For those who remember 1985 and what happened with the WWF (along with the other territorial wrestling groups), it’s a little over 20 years later and we’re seeing the same trends happening now that happened then to the wrestling industry in America.

  1. […] Fight Opinion is reporting that Saturday’s Ultimate Fighter season 3 finale did a 2.04 rating making it the most watched UFC ever. The peak hour pulled in 3.4 million viewers during the phenomenal fight between Kendall Grove and Ed Herman. Read more here. […]

  2. Andy says:

It wasnt the main event that drew people in tho – it was the TUF matched prior to it. I honestly dont know why they didnt make those the main event, as that is what people were watching for, and that was the whole point of the show.

  3. Mr1000Cent says:

So when does John Stossel show up and “exposes” UFC as being “fake”.

That, and I’m also waiting for 2008, when at Ultimatemania 3, Tito Ortiz over-sells a Vin Diesel punch that doesn’t connect (thus making boxing fans hate UFC more), and Tim Silvia slams Emmanuel Yarborough in front of a “record breaking” 90,000 people in Ford Field in Detroit, MI. Yeah, but then UFC will get too popular, have a cartoon, and dumb their product down for a mainstream audience, and create bad fighter gimmicks. Meaning I’ll have to wait until 2018, when an “evil” Dana White presents “UFC Attitude”, and makes mixed martial arts more “hardcore”, by giving fans more “real” storylines. But by that time I will still get ridiculed for watching MMA because the average person will tell me “don’t you know UFC’s fake?”

  4. Chuck says:

And don’t forget about the UFC hardcore division, with its 24/7 rule. And Andrei Arlovski’s Ministry of Darkness, then combining with Dana White’s Corporation. And Stone Cold Tito Ortiz saving the day, stunning Arlovski’s and White’s lackeys, like Ken Shamrock.

  5. Erin says:

And Team Miletich running around telling people to “suck it” and pointing in the general crotchal regions. I protest anyone trying to decend from the rafters, however.

  6. Chuck says:

And Caol Uno coming back to say “Me gonna choppy-choppy your pee-pee”!!!!! I await the day of the “Las Vegas screw job”.

  7. Its all too wack. I can’t keep up anymore. How many pay per views are there anyway? Pride is the only thing worth watching and someone is trying very hard to get them to fold. Lets face it, where there is plenty of money, there is plenty of corruption.

Fighters fight to bash in someone’s face and take money. Everything else that surrounds the spectacle is put on for Kings and Queens.

Too bad for Lee Murray. You’d figure after getting stabbed and being next to death one would renew life and try to do good. What made him think he was a bank robber?

UFC is a male soap opera with poor acting and poor fighting. I find it interesting that the global economy gets lost in fighting. Are the non-hardcore fans really under the impression that Tito Ortiz and the Maineiac are the best fighters in the world?

Zack Arnold props to you for letting people type up about this shit and the way its all going. JO-SAN-DO forever. (unless you know the secret ball-punch to defeat JO-SAN-DO)
