By Zach Arnold

Ken Pishna, accomplished MMA writer (and his wife is a photographer, too) and mainstay at MMA Weekly, has left that web site. Ken is now the director of MMA relations for the American Championship Fighting group (based out of Denver, Colorado).

For informational purposes, I am posting the first PR release for the promotion’s upcoming event.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ACF Debuts New Professional MMA Event in Denver

DENVER, COLORADO – February 13, 2006 – American Championship Fighting (ACF) is set to debut the most highly anticipated mixed martial arts event ever in Colorado on February 24th at the historic Denver Coliseum. The first ACF event, entitled Genesis, will feature the preeminent fighters in Colorado along with elite competitors from around the world providing the most exhilarating brand of fighting competition in an electrifying atmosphere.

ACF: Genesis is headlined by a main event featuring worldwide veteran and multiple time champion John Cronk vying for the first ever ACF title, the welterweight championship, against Olympic wrestler and Team Quest fighter Heath Sims. Cronk has a longtime reputation as Denver’s bad boy of fighting, but provides the skill and experience in the ring to back it up. Heath Sims, a member of the 2000 U.S. Olympic Greco-Roman wrestling squad, is a longtime veteran of the Japanese Pancrase promotion, but is now looking to make his mark on American soil.

Also highlighting the card is Team Quest’s Matt Horwich facing Rob Wince from Mark Coleman’s Hammer House; along with a slew of the best fighters in Colorado including IFC and WEC veteran Chilo Gonzalez, kickboxing champion Donald Cerrone, King of the Cage veteran Cruz Chacon, and Sport Fight veteran Noah Thomas.

Also in attendance will be a veteran of nearly every fight promotion on the planet, including the Ultimate Fighting Championship, as Jeremy Horn will be in Denver on February 24th to corner some of his fighters on the ACF: Genesis undercard.

Contested under the same Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts that states such as Nevada and New Jersey follow, the ACF is fully
sanctioned by the Colorado State Boxing Commission under the direction of Josef Mason. All ACF fights take place in “The Ocho.” A fenced in, cage-like enclosure; The Ocho adds a flare of excitement while providing for the utmost in fighter safety.

In addition to the most exciting fights possible inside The Ocho, the ACF is committed to providing an electrifying entertainment experience for the fans in attendance. From the ultimate in lighting and sound production to live action on the gigantic video screen to the ACF Knockout Girls, there is something for everyone at an ACF event.
