Inside Fighting is reporting that the UFC will hold its first event in California April 15th at UFC 59: Reality Check.

UFC 59 will also mark the return of Tito Ortiz to the octagon as he battles TUF1 winner Forrest Griffin.

Dana White had this to say:

“We are pleased to announce that, after years of waiting, the UFC is finally coming to California, We are looking forward to making our official debut with UFC 59 at the Arrowhead Pond, an event that brings one of our best light heavyweight fighters, Tito Ortiz, back into the Octagon™ and against one of our most popular UFC fighters Forrest Griffin.”

IMO, it’s a good idea for UFC to tap into the California market at the inception of sanctioned MMA there. Even better, it’s with the ‘Huntington Beach Bad Boy’ as the main attraction, as they can bill a hometown star as one of (if not the) key attractions, which almost never hurts.
