Brazil: GuaraFight 2

By Zach Arnold | January 11, 2006

Print Friendly and PDF

Last Saturday (January 7th), Denis Martins attended the GuaraFight 2 event in Guarapari, Brazil. He will have a report on the show either at OnTheMat.com or at Maxfighting.com. Here is a quick preview of his upcoming event review article (a main event featuring a Shooto veteran):

JVT ’99 veteran and 38 years old Angelo Sergio of Boxe Thai team schooled local idol (and until then undefeated MMA fighter) Joao Neguinho by KO in 57 seconds. Neguinho had stated that the “old” Sergio would be easy prey for him. So, Sergio waited for Neguinho’s attempts in the fight.

And there happens to be video. This video clip is sponsored by RipDorey FightWear.

For all of you reading this, please support Denis. He is a very hard worker, and his Brazilian articles on the fight game are important to read. I linked to his e-mail address up above in this post, but let me link to it again. If you want to contact Denis and help support him (whether it is by setting him up with writing jobs or other opportunities), please e-mail him at [email protected]. It would be a great favor, and it would personally mean a lot to me.

  1. Tomer says:

This fight was under Muay-Thai or other kickboxing rules, right? It was a pretty brutal beating and KO that got dished out by Sergio to Neguinho. Nice clip to watch, though.

  2. Tiago Okamura says:

The fight was under full-mma rules.
    Pretty cool clean KO.

  3. Tomer says:

Weird… (the boxing/kickboxing sized gloves). Any particular reason they’d employ them, especially if you want to work on the ground (which obviously neither of them wanted to)?

  4. Tomer says:

Actually, after rewatching the fight, I just noticed the gloves are only slightly larger (and that may be because of the camera angle) MMA gloves. Nevermind. 😉

  5. This was a full MMA match. Sergio is a JVT ’99 veteran who never more had a chance outside Brazil.
    Brutal KO!
    Thanks for the props
