No soccer ball kicks and foot stomps in DREAM

By Zach Arnold | March 11, 2008

Yuji Shimada said that the DREAM promotion would aim to not have either soccer ball kicks or foot stomps in fights that take place in the DREAM ring. More on this story here and here.

Mirko Cro Cop will face U-FILE camp member Tatsuya Mizuno at the DREAM 3/15 Saitama Super Arena event.

  1. Fight Dude says:

I guess that makes Sengoku more of the heir to PRIDE and Vale Tudo then.

Well Sengoku means “fight to the extreme” so I guess they got “extreme” over the rest.

  2. Rictor says:

No soccer kicks and stomps on the head of grounded opponent. To the rest of the body they are legal. And if the two fighters are on ground soccer kicks and stomps to the face are legal. I can live with that.

  3. ET says:

    Yarennoka rules

  4. Ultimo_Santa says:

CroCop can’t kick someone in the face while they’re grounded? This DREAM is a nightmare. :-(

  5. cyphron says:

Anyone else bothered by the fact that Mirko is fighting a nobody who weighs 20 pounds less than he does?

Is Dreams the “WEC” version of Pride?

  6. Dave says:

I’ve seen a few of Mizuno’s fights and he really isn’t that bad. The funny thing would be if he subbed Cro Cop. I think the losses in the US and then his “homecoming” foiled would just ruin him.

  7. cyphron says:

I think CroCop would destroy anyone in his weight class, which is light heavyweight. However, he is a hypocrite for refusing to drop down in weight due to his oversized ego, but yet has no problem fighting people who’s in that same weight class.

I think naturally, Chuck Liddell my have a bigger frame than Mirko.

  8. Ultimo_Santa says:

cyphron, that’s an interesting point. I’ve always thought that re: CroCop and his natural size.

It just seems that in Japan weight cutting isn’t as common as it is in the US. I was shocked at some of the size differences we’ve seen in recent UFC vs. PRIDE fights (Liddell vs. Mini-Wanderlei, Griffin vs. Mini-Shogun, etc.)

  9. joe says:

It’s official DREAM is not the new PRIDE it is the new HEROS.

  10. PizzaChef says:

I’m hoping they’ll introduce stomps and soccer kicks later like what PRIDE did.

  11. Straycat says:

More importantly DREAM will have 10 minutes first round, followed by 5 min. second round.
