WWE has no clue about MMA
By Zach Arnold | March 3, 2008
It was obvious before, and it became even more obvious after watching tonight on RAW.
The Big Show, who is facing Floyd Mayweather Jr. at WrestleMania in Orlando, faced a boxer named Brandon “The Thrill” Hill in a “Mixed Martial Arts exhibition” match. This was supposed to be a parody of the upcoming wrestling match with Mayweather and it was Vince McMahon-style comedy. The rules of the match were as follows: you can win by pinfall, submission, or knockout. (How is this any different than any other pro-wrestling match?)
Big Show ended up tossing around Hill like a rag doll in a glorified wrestling squash match. By the way, Mayweather has been absolutely terrible in the angle with Big Show. Show, meanwhile, has done his damndest to save the storyline. There’s nothing he can do to make up for the complete lack of timing and babyface charisma that WWE thought Mayweather would bring to the table.

Put simply, the angle wasn’t built up AT ALL,so, there should be no wonder why there is no heat
Who knows how many people are going to comment on this debaucle. The whole situation makes me sick, and I won’t even elaborate.
However, I always appreciate your reportage Zach, you will go down in the history of MMA and I am not ashamed of making that claim.
Really, this is just ridiculous. Who put Floyd on the mic like that? The pro-wrestling style interview just doesn’t work for guys like him. The only time he has been able to get the heat they want is during the face to face at the PPV with his whole posse there.
Basically, they need to get him on the show, maybe put him in some sort of crummy boxing exhibition against Snitsky or some other big lunk and have him KO them.
I have no idea what Vince is planning for this match. Unless Mayweather legitimately fights Big Show in a MMA or boxing match, the $20M will be a very big waste of money.
For that kind of payoff I expect to see Floyd get choke-slammed through a table, minimum. But I have a feeling we’ll get some sort of a ‘bait and switch’ at the last minute, and it will turn into a tag-match, screw job, etc.
There is NO POSSIBLE WAY this will end up as a 1-on-1 wrestling match.
What are the Sheepherders up to these days?
Ultimate dap for Sheepherders reference.
There is no way its really 20mil, U_S.
its been reported in the wrestling trades that it was only 1 million. The 20 million number is for story line purposes and what does that say about the media as many legit places picked up that 20 million dollar number as gospel.
When asked for an official comment on the 20 million WWE. A Public company had no comment.
