Quote of the Day - Dana White on Fedor

By Zach Arnold | February 5, 2008 | Print This

From a Q & A session in The Sun:

Fedor isn’t a real fighter, he’s a complete joke.

“He’s fighting middleweights and guys who have absolutely no business fighting – and he’s looking like s*** doing it.

“It’s 2008 and he hasn’t had a real fight since 2005. I don’t care about what he did in PRIDE years ago - he can’t live with anyone in the top five in the UFC and that’s why he’s not here.

“He’s not in the UFC because if he was he couldn’t avoid real competition like he’s been doing for years now.

Dana White’s quotes no longer have any connection to reality.

Dana, we all know you tried to sign Fedor, and we all know that you tried to underpay him, so he went elsewhere. And now that he’s accepting fights that are probably paying out 2-3 times what UFC offered him, he’s no longer a real fighter, and he’s a joke?

I used to think of Dana as the Vince McMahon if MMA…now he’s making so little sense, I equate him more to George W. Bush. Or with his short-term memory problems, maybe Ronald Regan would be a better comparison.

  2. February 5th, 2008 at 8:06 am D.Capitated Says:

I’m pretty sure the UFC is about 3 months away from having Eddie Sanchez from being in their “top 5 heavyweights”, which makes this statement all the more absurd.

Easy now… A comparison to Eric Bischoff would be more acceptible. :)

  4. February 5th, 2008 at 8:23 am Ross Says:

I can’t believe anybody still gets worked up by what Dana says about Fedor. Dana’s a promoter, he’s never going to say anything positive about Fedor while he’s not fighting in the UFC and making them money. If M-1 folded tomorrow and Fedor signed with the UFC Dana’s opinion would change quicker than the time it took Fedor to knock out Gary Goodridge.

I thought the more interesting quote from the interview was Dana agreeing that the 10-point must system blows for MMA.

  5. February 5th, 2008 at 8:34 am Kobashi100 Says:

So when is Dana gonna openly admit that his new champion Nogiuera was beaten by Fedor??

  6. February 5th, 2008 at 9:04 am Zack Says:

    Dana = scorn girlfriend

And he calls other men bitches.

  7. February 5th, 2008 at 9:34 am Chuck Says:

I think dana White is probably closer to being like Lou Dibella than anyone else. He’s a bald-headed white guy with a potty mouth, who says what is on his mind all the time. He is probably a bastard child of Vince McMahon and Lou Dibella.

  8. February 5th, 2008 at 9:42 am bdizzle Says:

HAHA this is really funny. What sad is UFC drones are going to take this to heart and not even know the REAL reasons Fedor did not sign with the UFC.

BTW how are the top 5 HW in the UFC… off the top of my head I would say Nog…No, Kongo…No, Sylvia…No, Gonzaga…No, I would say Coture and CroCop have the best chance. Coture because of his experience and maybe CroCop because he is used to his fighting style. Any one of of the previously mentioned would be a good fight indeed and anyone of them can get a lucky punch or kick in to knock out fedor.. the man is not invisible. Nog or Coture are the only ones i think has a chance to submit Fedor. My feelings are you can beat him once your a good fighter beat him twice in the rematch you’ve won my heart LOL. Lose rematch your previous win was luck.. LOL

  9. February 5th, 2008 at 9:43 am Mr. Roadblock Says:

Fedor pretty easily beat the current UFC champion twice. No reason to think he wouldn’t do it again.

  10. February 5th, 2008 at 9:50 am another MMA mark Says:

    Dana is just being Dana.

  11. February 5th, 2008 at 11:43 am Fan Fubtol Says:

Is anyone else excited that Arlovski’s pending departure means we might actually get to see Arlovski-Fedor? Maybe I’m naive about the likelihood of that match happening, but it’d be fun to see.

  12. February 5th, 2008 at 11:57 am Jeff Says:

Way to win people over. That kind of talk will ensure Fedor jumps to UFC immediately.

Too bad Fedor made more money fighting Choi that the current UFC champion just did.

  13. February 5th, 2008 at 12:08 pm karat3 Says:

he didn’t just make more, he made 10 times more.

  14. February 5th, 2008 at 12:19 pm liger05 Says:

I hope Fedor is just counting his $$$ and laughing at these comments from Dana White. Hey Dana ask your new HW champion what he thinks of Fedor? Ask him if Fedor is a real fighter or not?

  15. February 5th, 2008 at 12:46 pm D.Capitated Says:

Easy now… A comparison to Eric Bischoff would be more acceptible.

Except Lou DiBella is not a failed boxerciser/ boxing promoter and half way actually knows what he is talking about. When DiBella ’speaks his mind’ there seems to be slightly more content in it than White’s.

How much was Fedor paid for his last fight (please include source)? Did K-1 or M-1 pay him?

  19. February 5th, 2008 at 1:51 pm samscaff Says:

How funny is it that some people actually defend/justify Dana White’s absurd comments?

“I can’t believe anybody still gets worked up by what Dana says about Fedor. Dana’s a promoter, he’s never going to say anything positive about Fedor while he’s not fighting in the UFC and making them money.”

Not saying anything positive is not the same thing as shamelessly (and ignorantly) trashing a fighter simply because they didn’t sign with you.

Dana White is an embarassment. Period. I think the comparison to George W. Bush is actually really on point.

  20. February 5th, 2008 at 2:18 pm Jeff Says:

From the man that brought you Sean Gannon and Brock Lesnar…

    “Fedor isn’t a real fighter, he’s a complete joke.”

  21. February 5th, 2008 at 2:50 pm Dave2 Says:

Dana is being unfair to Fedor. He hasn’t fought anyone notable since 2005? Try Mark Hunt. Hunt was a top 10 heavyweight at the time of Shockwave 2006. Which reminds me. What the hell is up with Hunt these days? He hasn’t done MMA since Shockwave and he hasn’t went back to K-1 either.

  22. February 5th, 2008 at 2:50 pm Chris Says:

When Dana talks about real competition, he must be referring to his newly crowned heavy weight champion, who Fedor absolutely owned the last two times they fought.

  23. February 5th, 2008 at 6:45 pm D. Capitated Says:

Noguiera is only the interim champion, guys. The real champion is out disrespecting Zuffa and the sport by not fighting the guy who lost twice in dominating fashion to the other guy who isn’t a real fighter and is a real joke.

  24. February 5th, 2008 at 9:02 pm David Says:

    D. Capitated… you got some good things to say… but what the hell does all that mean?!

  25. February 5th, 2008 at 9:06 pm 45 Huddle Says:

Oh boy… You people are officially MMA Marks. No doubt about it.

  26. February 5th, 2008 at 9:13 pm Chuck Says:

“Except Lou DiBella is not a failed boxerciser/ boxing promoter and half way actually knows what he is talking about. When DiBella ’speaks his mind’ there seems to be slightly more content in it than White’s.”

Excellent points on Dibella. I like Dibella a lot more than Dana White. But he is known to trash fighters. He trashed Bernard Hopkins because Hopkins left him, and when Jermain Taylor beat Hopkins twice, he put it as a victory for himself as well. And he bashed Kid Diamond a while back saying something to the tune of “this kid has no money behind him and no one gives a fuck about him” or something like that.

  27. February 5th, 2008 at 9:16 pm Chuck Says:

“Oh boy… You people are officially MMA Marks. No doubt about it.”

And you are a total MMA nuthugger. What’s your point? Actually, you would be the mark because you defend Dana White to the ends of the world, whereas everyone else criticizes him. So we are the marks when we call Dana White out for saying stupid shit, but you aren’t even though you defend him, and you try to change the subject on something else (like you did in the thread about Dana’s comment on Hong Man). Yeah, we’re the marks!

  28. February 5th, 2008 at 9:54 pm another MMA mark Says:

I’m still amazed how people are taking Dana’s comments to the heart and with such conviction.

IT’S DANA WHITE, we should all pretty much know his zaniness by now.

  29. February 5th, 2008 at 10:40 pm dice Says:

“I’m still amazed how people are taking Dana’s comments to the heart and with such conviction.

IT’S DANA WHITE, we should all pretty much know his zaniness by now.”

I am still amazed that people like you actually think that other people take what Dana says to heart. Almost all the comments on this quote have been tongue in cheek (are you paying attention ROSS?). Yes, we all know the guy is loony, we just like to laugh about it. Its what people to do when someone is simply unable to go a week without saying something that makes him look like a hypocrite.

I believe thats why zach (maybe I am wrong, but I doubt it) puts up these funny Dana White quotes; for shits and giggles (hence the word funny). Nobody is taking the guy seriously, most of us here have some sort of cognitive function that allows us to remember his past “zaniness”. (45 huddle excluded)

  30. February 6th, 2008 at 3:42 am Jeff Says:

You sure like putting in a lot of 1/2 remember/imagined quotes with out of context events and sports.

Dana White is a failed boxing promoter and he reminds us bitterly of it whenever he can whether ironically referring to Gary Shaw as a failed boxing promoter, comparing the state of boxing to the UFC or lately his racist overtones and denouncement of Fedor in anything he does.

BTW you did see Kid’s last event right? And you know the numbers it did from both TV and live gate right?

  31. February 6th, 2008 at 4:22 am 45 Huddle Says:

    Chuck,

You guys are marks for getting all fired up about it.

  32. February 6th, 2008 at 5:56 am Ultimo_Santa Says:

Like everyone else I would love to see Fedor in the UFC. But thanks to Dana White, that’s probably never going to happen now.

First Dana botched the negotiations, and now he’s calling Fedor a joke. I’m sure after telling the world that Fedor a piece of crap he’ll forget about his $10M contract and come running into the octagon for 1/3 the pay.

If the Heavyweight Division in the UFC falls apart, it’s the fault of one man.

  33. February 6th, 2008 at 6:27 am Donk Says:

If Dana spent more time reaching out to fighters instead of slagging them off and burning bridges then the UFC would be in a much stronger position.

I wish the Fertitta brothers would fire his ass, he is a big obstruction to progress in my opinion. I think he lacks vision and balls. A man who resorts to shouting and swearing at people and is more concerned with making enemies than friends, sounds more of a coward than a leader.

    Just my two cents.

You guys are marks for getting all fired up about it.

Getting the fanbase riled up is usually a good thing if it translates to buys. How will this accomplish that? Or is it an excuse to use pro wrestling terminology?

  36. February 6th, 2008 at 9:47 am Chuck Says:

“BTW you did see Kid’s last event right? And you know the numbers it did from both TV and live gate right?”

Can’t say I do. And yes Dibella did say something to the tune of what I said about Kid Diamond. The quote was much longer but I can’t remember it and I can’t find it (I read it on fightnews.com awhile back).

    “Chuck,

You guys are marks for getting all fired up about it.”

Hey dumbass, watch what you say man. I don’t want Zach to ban comments again because you are an immature little brat who likes to call others names here. And as samscaff said this isn’t sherdog. Oh, and it isn’t cool to use pro wrestling terminology, especially the overused and usually incorrectly used term “mark”. It makes you look like an immature nerd.

  37. February 6th, 2008 at 11:19 am Michaelthebox Says:

Chuck: whats the point of calling out one guy saying something mildly antagonistic, when half the posters here couldn’t find intelligence in a rocket science lab?

  38. February 6th, 2008 at 11:40 am Zach Arnold Says:

Enough already. Final warnings. People will start getting dumped into moderation queues or banned if necessary.

  39. February 6th, 2008 at 2:23 pm Ultimo_Santa Says:

“If Dana spent more time reaching out to fighters instead of slagging them off and burning bridges then the UFC would be in a much stronger position.”

    That sums it up.

PS: It IS cool to use pro wrestling terminology. Very cool.

  40. February 6th, 2008 at 3:07 pm Jason Gatties Says:

Once again Dana speaks the truth. Bravo Mr.White!

  41. February 7th, 2008 at 12:44 am Hogan Says:

I hear even the Mona Lisa is falling apart. Dana is on the verge of blowing all the milestones the ufc has achieved. Losing talent to other promotions and then follow that with losing out on free agents. Dana needs to get his own house in order and stop making stupid statements that in the long run will prevent mma from becomming truely main stream.

  42. February 7th, 2008 at 12:23 pm Chuck Says:

Sorry Zach. I am not apologizing to Huddle though. Anywho Michael I was calling out Huddle not because of his views (I could care less that he has a love for dana White and Zuffa) it’s the fact that he likes to demean other because, God forbid, people disagree with him. That is what pisses me off. Not his opinions, but what he says of others’ opinions. Or rather how he goes about them. It’s fine to disagree, but not to troll like he does.

  43. February 13th, 2008 at 7:43 pm paco Says:

Dana is a joke … His heavy wight quit, his current champion had his ass handed to him by fedor 3 times, all of his other champions are from pride and aside from George St Pierre, there isn’t one decent UFC fighter left. The only smart thing he did was buying pride cause other wise he would be trying to set up so you think you can fight matches between Rosanne Bar and Tom Arnold. Dana is a true punk, and I hope he gets booted from UFC.

  44. May 6th, 2008 at 8:21 pm white devil Says:

Huddle eats C@CK! Don’t take anything he says seriously… This turd burglar lives down the street from me and the only good thing he ever did was tell me about this site. We usually clown him because he’s about 5ft tall and 80 lbs soaking wet. Im pretty sure he’s gay, or maybe he just acts like a 12yo school girl, but its his M.O. to talk crap on the internet. Its the only place he doesnt have to back it up!!!
