DSE rumor mill

By Zach Arnold | May 31, 2007 | Print This

By Zach Arnold

First, let’s cover the court beat. Today, all the parties involved in the Fishman Companies vs. DSE Inc. lawsuit are scheduled to meet in Clark County, NV. court to resume legal proceedings. The main attorney for DSE Inc. filed a motion to dismiss the case or get a summary judgment. One of the expected issues to be raised is whether or not a contract existed between Ed Fishman and DSE Inc. Witness depositions on behalf of Fishman Companies is still expected to occur.

Second, the Japanese blogosphere is buzzing about an online blog posting claiming the following:

  1. All Japanese employees that worked for PRIDE under the DSE banner are being laid off.
  2. There is no date scheduled for a Lightweight GP tournament and fighters are proceeding as if the event will not happen.
  3. Japanese fighters under exclusive PRIDE contracts are normally paid a monthly fee for their exclusivity, but allegedly money is not being paid.
  4. A press conference regarding PRIDE is scheduled to be held in a few days.

Zach, it appears that even if Fishman does win his lawsuit, all he will really win is the Pride name. I would imagine that if this is drawn out much longer, there will not be one name fighter left to market the company.

If this is the case, I would say this indeed is the end of Pride.

If this is true then there must be a whole load of unhappy fighters.

The way this is turning out, the parties will probably get together and give Ed what he wants to quietly go away.

As for the liquidation of PRIDE? The cupboard raid is already happening with very few Japanese fighters being listed. Since the fighters have to jump ship to another company, Zuffa can pick and choose whom they want..

Name 1 Japanese named fighter mentioned in the rumor mills at least once in association with the UFC?

fishman gonna get what he wants

ufc pockets run deep, for now

pride will never die, an event that sells out that many seats will always be developed, hopefully former disgraced pride prez will start a new promotion to take off where pride left off

and so the zuffa ball drop begins to fall

laying off all the japanese staff that’s a REAL smart move if it’s true!!LOL….why don’t they just rename the show “American Pride” and sell giant hotdogs in the stands
, i’m sure all of this is goin over very well for the japanese fans, seeing thier most sacred fighting arena defecated upon by a boxercize instructor
watch dana’s next move now that he understands he cannot do bizness is japan is to try and bring PRIDE to the united states, however this will fail…and he will dissolve the league, and mma will be dead, until Prez. Sak revives it

Spike TV is dropping UFC for KOTC, and HBO will dagger dana in his back, just like fuji did onl the implications will be intense

How would he get that if they sold it? I think the only thing Fishman gets out of this is money, there’s no guarantee he’ll get that either.

  8. May 31st, 2007 at 7:57 am Zach Arnold Says:

The angle I’m curious to see is if there are any hidden contracts or deals that haven’t been publicly or privately discussed that could surface. Whether or not it would impact the PRIDE asset sale, who knows (likely not), but it could give the average fan at home a peak into the way business was done in Japan.

When is Spike TV dropping the UFC?
I would think that if KOTC followed the UFC blueprint on Spike, we eventually may see a changing of the guard on the US mma landscape.

  11. May 31st, 2007 at 1:15 pm Zack Says:

KOTC is more of a franchise name than a real organization.

  12. May 31st, 2007 at 1:24 pm chairibofjustice Says:

Let’s say Fishman does win this case, he’ll still have to goto Japan to get their courts to enforce a ruling made in America. And how is he going to do that against a company that can’t even afford to pay their own employees. This case is a total waste of time and money.

  13. May 31st, 2007 at 1:46 pm 45 Huddle Says:

The SpikeTV/KOTC rumor has been going around Sherdog’s forums. I don’t go on there much, but it was one of the 5 to 10 main topics shown on the home page. I clicked on it just to read it. It is just some angry Zuffa fans trying to make up BS rumors.

SpikeTV would never go with KOTC. It looks second rate without question.

  14. May 31st, 2007 at 2:34 pm 45 Huddle Says:

Paulo Filho is going to the WEC, and NOT the UFC. This means Zuffa is really serious about building up that brand. Obviously, Mayhem and Filho will meet at some point.
