PRIDE 34 media coverage

By Zach Arnold | April 8, 2007

Sankei Sports claims the attendance for the PRIDE 34 show was 23,336. The newspaper claims that K-1 gave Sakuraba permission to have one fight with Kiyoshi Tamura in the PRIDE ring under UFC control. Sports Nippon echoed the same sentiments. The same from Nikkan Sports. And more of the same in Daily Sports. Sakakibara discussed the potential of Sakuraba vs. Tamura getting PRIDE aired on TV.

Outside of the Sakuraba/Tamura storyline, no real heavy coverage of anything else on the PRIDE show.

  1. Euthyphro says:

WOW. Great to hear that FEG will allow a Sak/Tamura fight to take place — but why on earth would they let that happen in PRIDE? Sak must have some ridiculous clout to pull that off.

  2. Zach Arnold says:

Just an educated guess of what the K-1 mindset would be…

    - They think they can milk a lot of money quickly out of UFC
    - They think Sakuraba will win, so it will be a ‘win’ for HEROs in the PRIDE ring
    - If K-1 has a stake in the one match that could get PRIDE on Japanese TV for simply one show, they will take it and try to eliminate UFC from having full control over PRIDE’s destiny on Japanese TV.

  3. PizzaChef says:

So….Sakuraba IS NOT back with PRIDE!? WHAT THE FUCK!?????!??!?!?? DAMMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Liger05 says:

just what I thought. No way coud saku have finished with Hero’s already.

  5. My bet is Saku does what Saku does. If he wants to fight in Pride then he will, and K1 can either get out of the way or Saku will make a huge stink about it. Note that Saku ‘creamed’ Akiyama (heh) pretty easily.

  6. Dedwyre says:

I’ve not seen much of Tamura…is Sakuraba in a lot of danger in this one, like he was against Smirnovas? Or does that really just depend on the referee?
