Sakuraba to attend UFC show?

Friday, May 26th, 2006

By Zach Arnold Sankei Sports reports that Kazushi Sakuraba may be in attendance for the UFC 60 show on Saturday night (Matt Hughes vs. Royce Gracie). The article speculates that Sakuraba may end up participating in UFC (given the current business relationship between UFC & K-1 with BJ Penn & Royce Gracie).

UFC’s expansion plans

Thursday, May 25th, 2006

By Zach Arnold There is a great Whaledog editorial about Dana White’s comments to The Long Beach Press-Telegram about expanding the UFC into Europe, Canada, and other markets. One comment that struck me in particular was Mr. White stating that the NFL has had trouble exporting their product overseas, but that UFC could export their […]

Newsday interviews Royce

Wednesday, May 24th, 2006

By Zach Arnold Joe Fernandez of New York’s Newsday did an interview with Royce Gracie for their Thursday newspaper edition. Two interesting notes from the interview: Joe Fernandez: How did you get signed for this match? Royce Gracie: It’s an agreement between UFC and K-1 because I’m under contract with K-1. K-1 called me up […]

Taking notice

Monday, May 22nd, 2006

By Zach Arnold The Houston Chronicle has a good article in their Monday edition of the newspaper, talking about MMA being hot property on US TV right now. It’s basically a UFC-oriented article with the usual pro-UFC spin about how they changed the rules (the same true/false mixed story), but one interesting twist is the […]

UFC’s “boxing” movement continues

Saturday, May 6th, 2006

By Zach Arnold Most people, by now, know that Dana White takes a lot of cues from boxing. It’s a positive on some levels, but unfortunately Zuffa’s latest move is not such a positive step if you’re an MMA fan. Boxing has, for the most part, relegated itself to a PPV-only product with exorbitant PPV […]

Anderson Silva rejects UFC story

Sunday, April 30th, 2006

By Mark Pickering Anderson Silva has reiterated his status after the UFC ran a story on their official website claiming the 185-pounder had signed a multi-fight deal with the company. The story appeared on April 22nd, the same date Silva knocked out UFC veteran Tony Fryklund at Cage Rage 16 in London, England. Silva held […]

Boxing versus UFC

Friday, April 28th, 2006

By Zach Arnold Keith Terceira has a great article on FoxSports.com titled Boxing losing the battle of evolution to UFC. A must-read article, and I want to hear your feedback about it in the comments section of this post. Money quote from Keith’s article: Writers have been pointing out boxing’s deficiencies for years only to […]

UFC 59 – The Judges

Saturday, April 15th, 2006

The name of the event is “Reality Check,” and depending on who you talk to, it seems that maybe the judges scoring tonight’s fights at the UFC show might be in need of a reality check. 🙂 I highly encourage ranting or disagreement for this posting. Meanwhile, some fans will need to be consoled after […]

The Ultimate Fighter 3 – Review

Thursday, April 13th, 2006

The Ultimate Fighter 3 – Review By: Luke Nicholson The show opens with a recap of the debut episode last week, and Kalib’s win over Mike Stine. Team Shamrock holds the hammer, in terms of matchmaking. This week Ross gets a little pissed off that someone has blocked the toilet, but never bothered to fix […]

Tito-mania runs wild

Thursday, April 13th, 2006

The Long Beach Press-Telegram has three articles (here, here, and here) on this weekend’s UFC 59 PPV show.
