Media notes: Steve Sievert

Monday, May 5th, 2008

Steve Sievert, who covered MMA for The Houston Chronicle, has left the newspaper and is now with MMA Junkie. Replacing Steve at the Chronicle is Jared Barnes. I can’t say enough good things about Steve and his writing ability.

Today’s chalkboard (5/5/08)

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

I’m not dead, but mainstream media coverage of MMA sure has been the past couple of weeks. I expect that to dramatically change in the next week, as we will see the heat-up for Sherk vs. Penn and also the upcoming EXC show at the end of this month. Onto today’s headlines. The South Florida […]

Chaos with DREAM

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Too long to translate, but the summary is that between fighters like Masakatsu Funaki losing and Kiyoshi Tamura suffering a finger injury, everything is in a state of flux right now with both DREAM GP tournaments. In other words, expect some past fighters (like JZ Calvan) to be possibly re-booked as replacements in the tournament […]

Fight Opinion Radio #80: Josh Barnett & Shayna Baszler

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

We decided to go with a different format for this radio show. This time around, the guests are the co-hosts… and it made for some interesting radio. Listen to Mr. Barnett discuss his philosophy on catch wrestling (in relation to jiu-jitsu) and his pointed comments towards Eddie Bravo. Shayna discusses her future with Elite XC […]

Tony Reali of ESPN talks MMA

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

In an interview with Michael David Smith of AOL Fanhouse: I’m really interested to see how MMA does this year on network TV. My gut tells me we have to get MMA. If somebody asked you 10 years ago would ESPN put poker on you’d have said no. There’s a resistance right now from an […]

The injury is no joke.

Josh Barnett booked for next WVR show

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

May 18th in Tokyo at Ariake Colosseum. More details coming soon. Update: While it is only a rumor, we’ve heard a name listed (strangely) as Barnett’s possible opponent… Jeff Monson. Is there a possibility that two Washington guys will be going at it against each other?
