The first thing I did was check if I have the “Versus” Station. I do. Which means I am happy.
The UFC has done 2 things with the HBO & VS deals. First, they have secured more television programming for Zuffa owned entities. Secondly, they have made it more difficult for their competition to get programming on cable TV. I know there are tons of channels today, however only a few will ever be in the market for MMA programming. The rest don’t go after the same demographic.
I just don’t see UFC doing a show on HBO. Jim Lampley still hates the sport of MMA, and if push came to shove, I think HBO would rather keep Lampley over bringing in what they would feel is an unknown product to their audience. Now if HBO did a UFC show, and had Lampley do the play-by-play, then IMO, someone at AOL Time Warner is pulling a very expensive practical joke.
