Strikeforce’s $3M USD offer for Elite XC limited assets
By Zach Arnold | February 11, 2009

So sayeth in the 8k SEC report released today. Of note:
In connection with the closing of the transactions under the Purchase Agreement, the Sellers also entered into certain non-exclusive license agreements with Strikeforce, pursuant to which Strikeforce will license from the Sellers certain trademarks and other specified intellectual property.

I really have no comment on this but I would just like to preempt the uninformed, baseless posts about how horrible a deal this is and what a waste of money it was..
Let the flood gates open…
Or perhaps now you will not say anything…
The license for “certain trademarks and other specified intellectual property”, allows Strikefore to use Elite XC’s video library and the logos that appear on event video.
In turn, Elite XC retains ownership of the video library and logos. Elite XC allegedly has plans to promote shows with its remaining fighters, so the video and logos would be useful for promotion purposes.
I have a feeling Strikeforce is going to go through some growing pains. I was reading that Monte Cox didn’t want Lawler vs. Villasenor. Now Coker has to find a new opponent. I would never want to go through the headaches of putting on a major show. Way too many parties invoved to mess it up.
I don’t know how much Zuffa spent on WFA’s “selected assets”, but they entered into that deal for what amounted to two contracts.
I think 3 mil is a pretty good deal.
Didn’t WWE buy out WCW’s assets for LESS than $3 million USD? And the WWE acquired everything from WCW, not just a portion. The WCW brand at the time of the 2001 purchase was worth a lot more than EliteXC is worth now in my opinion.
“I don’t know how much Zuffa spent on WFA’s “selected assets”, but they entered into that deal for what amounted to two contracts.”
They got more than two contracts out of that WFA deal. They got Rampage, Lyoto, Herring, & Kampmann for the UFC and Razor Rob & Mayhem for the WEC. They also got a couple of disposable card fillers in Eastman & Salaverry.
The WFA acquisition was a huge win for Zuffa.
Rampage and Herring are the only ones I’m counting, honestly. Lyoto would have ended up in UFC eventually anyway.
Makes you wonder whether Zuffa really paid $60 million for the PRIDE brand and partial video rights. Perhaps the $10 million figure that was floating around some sites was closer to the actual number.
$60 million
$10 million
Either way … they got swindled.
