Fedor out for six months

Emelianenko Fedor’s official Japanese home page reports that he had a 90-minute operation/surgery on his right hand on 1/26 in Sankt Petersburg, Russia. Doctors & specialists have told him that he needs six months of time off for the hand to fully heal.
If Fedor sticks to the doctor’s advice, that would prevent him from working the 5/5 Osaka Dome show. It also would prevent him from working in July because he would need time to train. That would likely set his timetable for fighting to be in September.

I think this is great news. Fedor desprerately needed that surgery in order to still fight. With his time off, he should be healthy by September.
Good to see Fedor isn’t making the same mistake as many other fighters. It would be a shame if he lost due to injury.
Considering that they need time to find a new, clear #1 contender (hopefully a fresh one at that) for Fedor anyway, it’s not a bad thing that he’ll be out until late 2006.
Hopefully this surgery will permanently correct the damage and Fedor doesn’t end up with a bad hand constantly getting re-injured. Its time for Fedor to discover the wonders of tape and protect those hands. A little bit of tape isn’t going to hurt his grappling or submission skills but it might keep the bones together.
I can already feel the anticipation building for his return to the ring. I also agree that the surgery is a good thing, for him and the fans. Having surgery and taking time off for his hand to heal properly is a small price to pay to have him back (hopefully at 100%) later this year.

I think Arlovski has one more fight left on his UFC contract. It would be awesome if they brought him to pride and had both him and Fedor fight on the same card in Sep. against some decent opponents. Then if both win, a super showdown on the New Years Eve show.

Not to get off topic, but I think Dana might actually be a bit worried Arlovski might jump–if he is offered good money. Thats the only thing that can explain the new and improved Tim Sylvia being pushed to an immediate title shot. By the time Frank Mir decides to step back in the cage, the belt will be his for the taking. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if the belt is held up due to the champ (Arlovski) walking out.
Arlovski would be fresh blood in Pride and give us good matches with Crocop, Big Nog, Khar…and maybe against Fedor if he can beat any of the top 5.
And on a different note, why didn’t Dana make a hard run to sign Herring before K-1 got him? Herring would be a dominant champ in the UFC.
I don’t know if there is some side story or not with Herring, but i’m pretty sure it’s all about $$$ as Pride/K-1 dish out A LOT more money than UFC does.
If Arlvoski goes to Pride, UFC should take a step back with the HW division. Maybe stop putting HW’s on the PPV cards and only put them on the Ultimate Fight Night, with a huge 32 man HW tournament style event that will take place over a years span.
