Video: Sarah Kaufman open to possibility of fighting Cris Cyborg
By Zach Arnold | August 15, 2010

INTERVIEWER: “So, um, you know, the big slam. What do you think it’s done for you and your career in terms of like how the press received it?”
SARAH KAUFMAN: “You know, I think the slam was obviously a huge step for myself personally in my career and just, um, you know getting those finishes back and getting off the decision wins and it was really exciting for me, for my whole team at Zuma, my coach Adam Zugec, and then to be on ESPN is huge just for anyone in Mixed Martial Arts, not even females in the sport. You know the fact that we made it that far, you know it’s just amazing and it’s I think really going to open some doors for both myself and just for everyone else in the sport as well.”

INTERVIEWER: “How do you feel about a potential match in the future with this lady right here (Cyborg), Cris Cyborg (laughing)?”
SARAH KAUFMAN: “You know, a match with Cyborg is definitely, you know, it’s something that could happen in the future, you know, if I chose to go up in weight. I think it would be a really exciting fight and a really good match-up and it’s just something that we’ll have to look at down the road to see if maybe we could do a catch weight or if I would have to go up fully 10 pounds.”

She is not a good interview.
She’s been bitten, by, the, you know, right? I mean, obviously, you know, you know what I mean.
Be sure that you site who shot this video to make it clear that this is not video that you shot.
That is being a good journalist.
I seriously doubt Cyborg’s ability to drop to 140, and Cyborg would bludgeon Kaufman at 145.
At any rate I don’t think Kaufman has enough momentum going yet or nearly enough popularity for there to warrant an inter-divisional superfight right now. Fans are only just starting to warm up to Cyborg as a champion, and Kaufman is only just starting to be recognizable to your typical internet fan. I know they’ve had trouble getting a decent opponent for Cyborg but this is not a good solution. It won’t generate enough extra buzz to justify having one of your champions lose without losing their belt, and if Kaufman were to actually take Cyborg’s belt that would be a really bad situation.
There are legit opponents out there for Cyborg (even if Erin Toughill can’t make weight, Shana Olsen, Amanda Nunes, and Yuko “Hiroko” Yamanaka come to mind) and StrikeForce would be really fucking stupid if they made this fight right now.
It’s not stupid to have commentators _talk_ about it or tease it, because that generates some buzz for Kaufman, and helps promote her as a Champion, but actually doing the fight would be a huge StrikeForce-esque mistake.
