Maynard still shouldn’t fight. Still ridiculous. Cmon, its a guy going to fight who can’t wear gloves or be kicked.
Pearson can be an elite fighter. Lots of guys can be. Will he? I don’t see it. We’ve seen him fight 3 strikers, basically. Okay, Riley can wrestle a little bit, but he’s known for being in crazy wars and trading leather with people. I’ve seen the last guy Pearson lost to before – he’s a straight up and down wrestler/grappler, and while I haven’t seen the fight, I have a feeling as to how it went if Pearson ended up on the wrong side of the cards.
Instead of judging him based on performances over standup fighters, let’s see him make the next move into fighting someone comfortable with the mat. He should be at a point right now where he can fight Mac Danzig or Mark Bocek and its no big thing. If he can beat them, and in doing so, really dominate them and maybe finish, I might be more interested in hearing that sort of talk, but not till then.
I wouldn’t mind seeing Pearson vs. Bocek as a test of his grappling skills, and with a win — pushing him toward guys like Stout, Fisher… middle of the pack fighters.
Bocek is not middle of the pack? Considering a home-town decision for Miller.
I also haven’t seen Pearoson vs. Mohammed fight, but from what I’ve read the decision was very controversial.
I think the jury is out there on how he’d do against top position wrestlers (many people believed Hardy won’t be able to stop Swick’s takedown), but Ross is definitely one of the better and more versatile strikers in the division.
Oh my God, I just threw up in my mouth a little when I read the Hoger-Master P team up. Are they going to push Swoll as their top heavyweight on the card and pay him far too much money? Will Sam Hoger steal No Limit merchandise? (“Hey, they gave me all these Lil’ Romeo hats!”) I know it’s for a good cause, but yet no good can come of it.
I think Faber vs Aldo is a mega-fight… unfortunately all the cards haven’t been laid so it would appear that way. Faber is a phenomenal fighter and Aldo is at that same level of intense striking, grappling, and combining the both; both fighters can scramble too which is going to be either a very interesting fight or a really quick and brutal finish 🙂
The thing is “megafight” generally refers to fan interest and not quality. Faber-Pulver is as big as WEC will ever get so even though Faber is arguably a bigger star now than ever he’s still going up against a guy who is new to the public consciousness. So there’s no way this compares to the most watched WEC events, especially on PPV. It’s one of those fights where the rematch will be significantly bigger than the first time out.
I’m trying to figure out which PPV’s to buy for the next few months. I might skip UFC 112 and buy the WEC PPV instead for April. On paper, it has a much better chance of being a fun card.
I have Comcast SportsNet, and I set up Bellator on my DVR. Already I’ve noticed with the scheduling that it doesn’t seem to be completely consistent. Luckily for them, basketball is over around this time and all of the baseball is on other channels. Still, it varies a little bit per week… Sometimes it starts at 8pm other times it starts at 8:30pm.
I looked at other Comcast SportsNet and FSN Affiliates just to see what happened in markets with baseball. Bellator either isn’t shown at all or is pushed to the 11pm timeslot.
If I were interested in either right now, I’d get the WEC show. Better fights.
BJ Penn and Anderson are 2 of the best fighters in mma history, and when they are both on the same card, it is a can’t miss for me.
Yeah, but these are two severe mismatches for both of them. I know lots of people here want to believe Edgar can outbox and outwrestle Penn but he won’t. And Maia has zero stand up ability going up against a guy who is one of the elite strikers of his era. That sounds like a suicide mission to me. I think Hughes-Renzo is the only fight where I’m torn on the outcome. Although I’m more sorry it didn’t happen 10 years ago.
On the other hand Faber-Aldo could go either way so I’m far more interested in that.
