Bellator is an incredible story. Dude who runs massive burn on cable TV with boxing promotion resurfaces after rise of MMA, finds more investors, miraculously finds huge money to pay guys while running pay TV deals and says the right things to the press (which, incidentally, are the same exact things he said when running his selfenriching boxing promotion). Unlike Strikeforce, who have always made money, Bellator gets nothing but positive PR and no one really asks how they do it. That’s a pretty mighty indictment of everyone’s investigative skills.
Just wait for their inevitable crossing of Dana’s path, then you’ll hear a completely different tune from the oh-so-credible Internet MMA “journalists”.
This is true. Most of the fans and MMA Media seem to let most MMA activities run without much questioning… As long as they aren’t being overhyped. As soon as they get the typical anti-Zuffa fanboys behind them, the organizations get the 5th degree. It’s a complete double edged sword.
At the end of the day, Bellator will still need to start turning a profit or they will lose investors. And the only way they will make it is if Strikeforce stumbles and they take over their spot. FSN isn’t going to cut it.
Just look at the productions Bellator is doing right now. It’s UFC quality videos. Absolutely beautiful stuff. That is expensive production that can’t be kept up without making money.
I don’t have FSN in my area. I have a Comcast sports channel, which should get Bellator. Which means finding Bellator every Thursday will be even harder then normal, even with a DVR…
