The Star-Tribune is at it again in attacking MMA
By Zach Arnold | August 17, 2008

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune, one of America’s struggling ‘big’ newspapers, is at it again in attacking MMA. It’s the same author who went on the attack against MMA last year, Katherine Kersten. It’s the same theme as well — UFC is going to bring down America’s culture and bring in the moral darkness.
You’ll remember the author from this diatribe one Summer ago.

what a pathetic story. why is it that all these anti-MMA writers can come up with is masturbatory garbage? that writer should have prefaced the story with “This is what I remember from college…aren’t I SO CLEVER?!”
weak.
What is the deal with all these uneducated critics bashing mma all the time? It’s clear from their articles that they don’t understand mma and what goes into traing and learnig the different martial arts or what a human chess match mma can be. Please check out my blog and let me know what you think, http://bighubb.blogspot.com/
I think it’s a well written piece and she is perfectly entitled to her opinion. The only thing I found funny/silly was when she put inverted commas around “rules”, as if they weren’t really rules.
Anyway, let’s not kid ourselves, lots of MMA fans (or actually more accurately, Ultimate Fighting fans), are bloodthirsty morons. When looking at the sport in the context of those booing, idiotic comment shouting morons, she is not far wrong.
I don’t see what the big deal is. She’s mostly right.
The Sherdog forums, and commenters on pretty much every MMA blog but this one, prove this.
Yeah, while there are people who are interested in the art of fighting, a lot of people simply are not. They want to see Chuck Liddell punch somebody’s head off.
I mean, she is getting upset with strip clubs and moral fiber and so on, of course MMA is going to but her. She probably thinks that action movies and video games are turning kids into zombies, too.
everyone is indeed entitled to their opinion. if it’s stupid, it should be mocked.
and if shouting, bloodthirsty morons are such a drag to this person, she should just check out now because the describes what, 99% of the human race at one point or another? i’m sure such a delicate and refine character as hers has never shouted, say, for a ball carrier to be tackled, though. i can almost hear the tinkle of monocles popping out in surprise and shock at such a suggestion.
She’s entitled to an opinion, but keep in mind that she’s a wannabe Ann Coulter who knows the only way to keep her job is to be offensive while spouting her religious beliefs. She’s been called “the worst paid writer in Minnesota” and while I realize that I’m not a great writer, I attempt to build an opinion around facts without trying to force religious, moral, or political beliefs. Anyone can do that (many people already do) and it’s a waste of time. She probably has nothing to be happy about so she attempts to drag everyone else through her mud in typical newspaper blogger fashion.
Wow, it sure seems like she put a lot of time into the article. You figure she’d actually try and watch an MMA event.
garth – I’d be impressed if that’s what she remembered from college. Have you seen her picture? She looks like she’s 90.
There’s really no reason to get upset. I be surprised if 10% of women over 70 don’t have the same opinion she does. Just let the old dinosaur have her say. She’s harmless.
