Feedback to new site theme
By Zach Arnold | December 3, 2007

All positive or negative feedback goes here.
Plus, if you have constructive ideas on how to tweak or change the new layout, post a comment so I can work on it. Thanks.
By the way, keep your eyes open to updates on the right side of the page (as well as the news updates on the left side). If you have any audio RSS feeds you would like me to add to the audio corner, please let me know.
FWIW, the theme loads a bit differently if you use Internet Explorer as opposed to Firefox or Netscape. It loads much better in Firefox and Netscape than IE, which for some reason makes the columns and side fonts bigger.

1 question, where the hell did you get a Fight Network RSS feed?
I like it Zach! Looks really fresh and clean.
I actually had to make my own Fight Network RSS Feed, then parse it through FeedBurner just to even get it to load right.
You’ll be shocked – shocked – to learn that the Hardcore Sports Radio XML feed does not work for their radio show. These guys can’t even get an RSS feed working right because they want you to use their embeddable audio player for every segment. Bah humbug to that.
I really like the left side of the page with the headlines. Keep it up, Zach. This site has been awesome since its inception.
I visit your side for a long time and this new stuff looks great man
I really like that you guys keep the site simple. *thump’s up*
Great work, buddy.
Hi Zach,
Reckon it looks good – far less generic than the last design.
One problem I’m experiencing is that the Header image is appearing blank in FF2 for me. If I modify the CSS in Firebug to change the background-color of the header to transparent it fixes it.
Also – any chance of providing all of them aggregated news links as one big separate RSS feed? That would save me about 20 feeds in Google reader.
If you know the HTML code (i.e. white is FFFFFF, etc.) for transparent, I can quickly change it in the CSS.
Re: RSS (I’m assuming something similar to OPML or using Yahoo to create one giant RSS feed), I’ll see what I can do.
Hi Zach
your page looks awsome – I also like the news feed on the left side a lot!
keep up the good work!
“If you know the HTML code (i.e. white is FFFFFF, etc.) for transparent, I can quickly change it in the CSS.”
transparent 🙂
I changed it in Firebug to:
background: transparent url(images/header.jpg) no-repeat scroll center top;
Thanks.
and yeah – using a Yahoo pipe was something I considered, I’m just a lazy bastard
Tell me if the site header loads right for you now.
The new design is pretty good.
Just one criticism. It may only be me but I find it extremely busy visually. The font in the left and right hand columns is heavier that that of the central column which makes it difficult to concentrate on the writing in the central column.
Can you de-emphasize the font on the left and right columns to make it them less overpowering?
As noted in the post, if you load the site theme on IE vs. Firefox, it looks different. (IE makes the columns and fonts bigger).
I will try and see what I can do here.
Is it possible to change back to the old theme? Like Fightlinker does.
The site looks great, and is even more helpfull now then ever in getting all the headlines around mma.
great job.
Looks good… Nice one.
Good job Zach and whoever helped with the redesign, it looks good.
I have a tool bookmarked to put multiple RSS feeds into one. I’ll see if I can find it and forward it to you Zach.
I sent an email to you as well to get links for a couple feeds.
Good job!
But…
I fear change.
The design is clean and minimal, which I like. It works well. The commenting system is still… meh. Once traffic picks up, that might be an area to improve on, but for now it’s good.
Please give me specific suggestion on improving the comments section.
Zach,
I liked a long time ago when you used to prominently feature the headlines for that day. They were grouped together, and were on the front page in plain view.
Now, it seems like sometimes we have to dig a little to find the top stories, and they are kind of spaced-apart with a little blurp separating each lead story. I liked the old way of grouping the headlines better–a one-line headline which links right to the accompanying story. Is there any way of bringing that back?
Otherwise, your format is great. Keep up the good work.
Looks great in Opera 9.10. Opera seems to be “thonner” than IE as well, as you described with Firefox & NEtscape.
Like the new design already, and the added features just makes this even more of as go-to site.
Specifically, I’d go with threaded comments due to the lengthy discussions that occur here on posts. Especially the daily roundup posts where people comments on one topic after the other. Threading the comments would allow people to follow responses and reply to each comment and have seperate conversations without losing position.
Of course, this is better for sites with large comment listings, but at times, this site does have lengthy responses.
Zach,
Here’s something to check out.
Disqus – Threaded Comment System
http://disqus.com/
I believe it’s free, but I didn’t look in depth. It’s fairly easy to integrate in WP as well, at least according to the site. I plan on checking it out. The API is also available, which is great because I can add additional code, etc.
Mr.Arnold,I can’t believe I am actually posting something on a website but the new look FightOpinion.com is absolutely fabulous! As for problems you may be having with our website and radio show, the powers that be have informed me that the matter is being investigated. Anyway, great job with the site. Amiably

C-YA!
Two Thumbs Up! (Wow, was that really Mauro?)
lol @ “mizark” being a anti spam word i have to type to leave a comment.
Finally, Carny and the internet have joined forces
Heh, my favorite was “jobber”.
even funnier is “carny”
has anyone seen “kayefabe”, “fence builder” or “matt striker”…errrr, I mean, “stooge”
i like it. better than it was be4 but still simple
I’m just a Unfrozen Caveman Laywer confused by the world’s modern ways. Sometimes when I’m driving in my BMW, I wonder if there are actually people trapped in my XM radio singing. I do, however, know one thing, that FightOpinion looks neat and simple and this is good.
Keep up the good work,
Lance Ito
looks the same to me
