Inoki has advice for Kameda

By Zach Arnold | August 14, 2006

By Zach Arnold

Antonio Inoki has had a storied career, and some of those highlights include his friendships with dictators. Before you consider that statement harsh, history shows that Mr. Inoki likes to extend himself to various characters — such as the Hussein sons in 1990 in Iraq (when he went there to get Japanese hostages freed), or when he had the idea of fighting Ugandan ruler Idi Amin in a match.

Daily Sports has an article talking about some advice that Antonio Inoki has for one Koki Kameda, the heavily-pushed 19-year old boxing Light Flyweight. Inoki told the press that Kameda should have a re-match with Juan Jose Landaeta (of Venezuela) and that it should be modeled after the famous Ganryujima rain forest island match in Yamaguchi from 1987 between Inoki and Masa Saito, which went 2 hours long and had an unlimited round structure until someone quit or was declared a decisive winner. Mr. Inoki says that he would like to see Kameda fight Landaeta in a rematch in an unlimited round structure.

Inoki says that he plans on visiting Venezuelan communist socialist dictator Hugo Chavez, and that he would appeal directly to the WBA for the re-match to happen with no restrictions.

  1. MonkeyMatt says:

    The man is delightfully insane.

He should just stick to his dayjob of hosting the largest chin in the world and shouting really loud at MMA events. Oh, and slapping people in the face.

Kameda has already said he is done with the weight category and is moving to the next… So we’ll never see him get KTFO by Landaeta.

  2. Tommy says:

As much as I like reading your stuff Zach you’ve got it wrong on Hugo Chavez I dont want to get all political but might I remind you that the man has been democratically elected twice by his own people, hardly a dictator to say the least and I think you need to lay off of that neoCON right wing Fox(Faux)news propaganda and no I’m not a typical pinko sissy “liberal” just a independent thinking individual that see’s through the crap from both sides.

  3. Preach says:

Uh, Zach. Normally there’s nothing wrong with your news and commentaries, but calling Chavez a communist dictator is just a bit off, isn’t it? For one, he’s not a communist, but a socialist, it may not be that much of a difference for an american, but there is one. And a dictator? Umm, we’re talking about a man who was elected (!) by 53% of his fellow countrymen. That means more venezuelans voted for him, than there were americans voting for Bush or germans voting for Merkel to become their nations leaders.

  4. luciano says:

Chavez communist dictator? Are you kidding? Venezuela is still capitalist, and chavez won the elections twice!! the second with the supervision of Jimmy Carter and the OEA (do you know what is OEA). ah, i’m not venezuelan.
    C’mon…

  5. Jocke says:

I´m with the others here on the so called “communist dictator” Chavez thing. I know you are right wing but come one get facts straight.

  6. Billy says:

Calling Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez a “communist dictator” is so utterly ridiculous and laughable. Stick to talking about combat sports because you clearly know absolutely nothing about politics.

  7. Jeff says:

Hugo Chavez is the 2 time democratically elected president of Venzuela.
I hope your mistake is stupid ignorance instead of willfull lying.

Zach, I take you as a somewhat educated person, so I assume that you are trying to make some sort of misguided point in writing that lie.

  8. keith champagne says:

    Inoki’s a nut. I love that guy.

  9. Chuck says:

Holy shit, is everyone here left-wing liberal types? I am a right-winger as is I guess Zach Arnold, but Hugo Chavez is a Socialist, and that is pretty close to being Communist. Actually, there has never been a country in the world history that has been true communist. With true Communism, there would be no monetary system. Venezuela, Cuba, China, etc. are just extreme Socialism. And why are so many here defending Chavez? He’s a damn pinko Socialist, so he should drop dead. And it has been proven time and time again that capitolism (especially the American system, with Socialistic programs like Social Security, Welfare, etc.) have helped out the middle class financially than Socialism has. Oh yeah, to those wondering, I did vote for George W. Bush in the 2004 elections. But on to Inoki, Kameda, and Landeata…

That would be insane to see an unlimited round fight between Landeata and Kameda. Kameda is going up in weight class, so it’s not going to happen. I saw the last five os so minutes of that Saito vs. Inoki 2 hour marathon match, and it was quite bloody and grueling.

  10. Zach Arnold says:

Chuck – I’m not surprised that the label I put on Chavez drew heat, but anyone who has analyzed Inoki’s career understands his motives based on the type of people he has hung around with — and that list is not one most people want to be associated with. You don’t have to be right-wing politically to get that point, either.

I don’t need to talk about Chavezothers can do that job just fine. I’ll stick with Inoki.

  11. Rohan says:

Inoki will deal with anyone to make money! So he’s dealt with Italian TV execs, Vince McMahon, the Japanese mafia, the Diet, the south Koreans, the north Korean dictatorship, Muhammad Ali, Castro. And he’s claimed to work with many more. The point is that some of those people/organisations I’d want to deal with, some not.

Chavez isn’t going to deal with him so as you point out indeed this story is about Inoki and his son-in-law’s fantasies.

So why the pop at Chavez? Well that has everything to do with your view of democracies that choose the ‘wrong’ guy!

  12. Preach says:

Well Chuck, first of all, i wouldn’t call other people names, if i weren’t even able to spell my own language correctly, as it’s still “capitalism” and it has absolutely nothing to do with the Capitol. And actually there is more than just a slight difference between socialism and communism. France had socialist governments, Italy had socialist governments, Spain has one right now… And that list could be continued for quite some time. And i don’t think that even the weirdest right-wing nutjob would dare to compare these countries to the likes of Cuba, China, North-Korea, the former GDR or the former USSR.

  13. Zach Arnold says:

Preach – Chavez has financially started to alter the way business is done in his country, especially in oil production (by centralizing it more towards a Government-based system rather than having independent operators). In many regards, he does view himself as having a close friendship with Castro and it would not be surprising to see some emulation in the future.

Rohan – I think Mr. Chavez would benefit from not doing photo-ops with Mr. Inoki. 🙂

  14. Jared says:

Oh Chuck, let me guess, you’re not an economist?

In anycase, going to have to go with the consensus here, Chavez is not a dictator, and he’s a socialist. And yes, there is a profound difference between socialism and communism.

And no, considering countries like Cuba and China have limited free market, they are not “extreme socialism.”

Statements like that only show political ignorance.

As long as we’re throwing around labels here, we might as well get them correct.

  15. Danny says:

Zach I agree with you 1000% about Chavez being a dictator, and while followers of your site (me being one of them) for the most part are very knowledgable on the affairs of MMA and PuroLove – their know-how of politics are very questionable. Here in Miami there are thousands of Venezuelans that can whole heartedly attest to the level of dictatorship in which that leftest “Solcialist” Castro Wanna-be Chavez runs his country. Both elections have been proven to have been fixed. Yes, hard for some on this board to believe. The machine used during the second election were built by a Miami firm that confirms that with the correct software, can be easily modified to adjust the votes. Besides why are some of you defending this dirt bag, who constantly dogs the USA and ALL AMERICANS on weekly basis.
As for Inoki… Japanese in general have real softline views towards other oppressed countries like Cuba. Perhaps now with the Koreans scaring the hell out of them, promotions will think twice before having events there.
And no I’m not some biased right wing nut from Venezuela. I’m a biased right wing American of Cuban decent, who believes Hollywood (entertainment in all forms) and politics should never mix.

  16. Meekrob says:

Correct me if I’m wrong here, but… didn’t Saddam Hussein get 100% of the vote in one particular Iraqi election? How much more democratic can you get? *rolls eyes*

  17. PizzaChef says:

Guys, communisim is suppose to be about equality among people even when they’re clearly not equal. The other “communisim” is just dictatorship with another name.

Anyways the real communism sucks major ass. It doesn’t work for the reasons state above.

  18. Frankie J says:

If your “I told you Pride is going down the tubes” Stuff wasn’t already too much, now you show yourself to be at best a political novice, at worst a right-wing mouthpiece.

You just lost me Zach, I can’t rate you as a journalist any longer.
Not interested in what you have to say, no credibility.

  19. Frankie J says:

O and Danny, go fuck yourself you weasel, I know my politics, as I’m sure you know yours. See you on the other side of world war 3.

  20. Chuck says:

Jesus Christ, what the fuck has this thread turned into? Preach, I spelled capitalism wrong, ooohhhhh! So fucking sue me! It was a mistake, and the only one I made! And I admit it.

And Jared, get your head out of your ass, and accept the fact that not everyone here shares your political viewpoints. Same to Preach and the other jerk-offs who don’t respect viewpoints unlike their own. And I call Cuba and China extreme Socialism because they are dictatorships (whether you like the fact or not, nor want to admit it) and exactly the fact, they ARE Socialist. Not quite Communist. Trust me, I know politics pretty well. Maybe not quite as well as you guys, but I know what I am talking about for the most part. And I know that Canada is run very differently and more democratic than, say, Cuba.

I don’t want to offend anyone here, but the attacks are bullshit. Or do you guys just hate the fact that I admitted that I voted for Bush? Hey, different opinions are what makes the world go round, right? Now let’s stop with the name calling, and talk about how much of a delusional moron Antonio Inoki is!

  21. MonkeyMatt says:

So anyway, about that Inoki guy…

  22. Chuck says:

Yeah, Inoki is one hell of a dreamer. Who else, in the history of the world, ever has gone through with meeting up with world leaders/dictators (when it comes to Chavez, he has what many of us call a “cult of personality”, look it up) and try to have world peace, through pro wrestling and MMA. Why hasn’t he met up with George W. Bush yet about that?

  23. Big Pimpin says:

You guys are a bunch of gay wads….

Inoki is the real communist bastard….

    Long live Chavez…

  24. Tommy says:

I’m sure you Americans showed the world real “democracy” during the 2000 elections when you made a mockery of the voting system in florida when it was clear that Al Gore won and as much as I didnt like Bill clinton George W Bush has to be the worst president ever and i’ll have Hugo Chavez over that alcoholic bum and cokehead mumbling dimwit George w bush who cant even pronounce his words properly when he’s talking (maybe its the alcohol and drug use taking affect you think?) and Hugo Chavez probably has a better grasp of the english language than this moron who has made you people hated all over the world with your blatant racism to people who arent American and I guess china are just laughing at the thought that George w is leading your country to eventual ruin unfortunately.

  25. Danny says:

hey Franky gay, you go fuck yourself!! Appearantly the massive time you spend playing pocket-pool has caused you to become retarded. Yeah I would love to see you at WW3 (hopefully sooner punk). Only a pussy like you would use the web to make personal attacks knowing that a pinko, flag-burning pegboy like yourself will be spared a brutal beatdown.

  26. Chuck says:

[You guys are a bunch of gay wads….

Inoki is the real communist bastard….

    Long live Chavez… ]

Congratulations, besides Tommy, you are the biggest retard on this site. I am proud of being an American, and I couldn’t give two shits what some non-American thinks of me or my country. I waste electricity, I pollute the Earth, I’m greedy, I eat meat, and guess what? I am not ashamed of any of that! It’s douchebags like this and Tommy, and Preach, etc. who turned this thread into a political argument, because a few here actually got offended when Zach Arnold decided to call an anti-American dictator (yes, I said dictator, don’t try to correct me, because I don’t care) a dictator. Guys, get off his cock, he hates you too if you are American.

Oh, and Tommy, show me proof where Gore won the elections. Don’t you have a grasp on how the electoral college works? Sure, Gore won the popular vote. But guess what? He didn’t capture Florida. That is no conspiracy theory. Just that the voting system was fucked up back then in Florida, and supposedly, many old people accidentaly voted for Pat Buchanan, another man who would make for a good president. Bush won Florida, get over it. Gore got more nation wide votes, but Bush won the right states. That’s how it works.

  27. Zach Arnold says:

    Time to close this thread!
