WFA aims for pro-wrestling fans
By Zach Arnold | July 19, 2006

WFA President Jeremy Lappen comments:
“Pro wrestling’s audience is waning,” Lappen said. “I think boxing’s audience is waning. I think those people are still out there. They’re just looking for something else to watch. I think what they’re going to watch is this.”
The fighters don’t seem to mind the extra attention and appear more than willing to provide a colorful personality.
Here is an interview with Ryoto Machida, who is fighting on this weekend’s event.

Another promoter goes after the wrestling fan base. Coincidence? Probably not. Having RAW as a lead-in for the first season of The Ultimate Fighter was a big key for the success of TUF1, and for the eventual success of UFC overall. Now, with their fanbase established, they don’t need the lead-in, as they do fine by themselves.
I don’t know whether Vince would want another MMA program following RAW, only this time on USA, and not SpikeTV. If Jeremy Lappen and the WFA can pull it off, more power to them, but I’m not sure Vince wants to risk another company bleeding away more PPV buys from him.
