Fight Opinion Radio: Episode 20 (UFC 60 review)

By Zach Arnold | June 2, 2006

Print Friendly and PDF

This week’s 40-minute show is presented by MMACalifornia.net and MonsterWrestlingRings.com. This week, we review the UFC 60 show that took place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Is Matt Hughes really a true “ace” that the UFC can draw big business with? We know what kind of fighter he is skill-wise, but what about the intangibles that go along with being a superstar? We answer some of those questions.

The 20th edition of Fight Opinion Radio is now online and available to download. Here are your options for listening to the show:

Broadband (MP3) | Dial-up/Streaming

Or you can use the great flash player to listen to it streaming (without having to use an external program). Check it out (down below).

A bit on the short side, but still a good show overall. And with Jose Luis Castillo being 4.5 pounds over (second time he came in over the weight limit and couldn’t make it below) and causing the cancellation of Corrales/Castillo III, there’s some Boxing discussion ripe for the next episode! 😀

[causing the cancellation of Corrales/Castillo III, there’s some Boxing discussion ripe for the next episode!]

When Rob gets done fantasizing about the Netherlands Antilles (which was the listed home place of The Million Dollar Man in the WWF in the 80s, but I digress), I’ll make sure we get a guest on to talk about boxing.

I was lucky to get a show done this week!

  3. Rich says:

Not to mention the upcoming Tarver/Hopkins fight. Which has been rumored to be Hopkins retirement fight. However I expect Hopkins to get the win and I doubt he’d pass up the big pay days that would be coming his way for title defenses. But who knows what goes on in the hearts of men.

  4. Tomer says:

There’s also a good amount of big fights going on as well in the next few weeks in addition to Hopkins-Tarver to talk about:

On 6/17 HBO has Jermain Taylor vs. ‘Winky’ Wright (the #1 & 2 Middleweights in world) fighting on free TV (with Hopkins-Tarver replayed as the undercard, I believe). The following week (6/24) has top 10 HW Calvin Brock taking on Timor Ibragimov on HBO free TV as well. On 7/2 Manny Pacquiao will be taking on former Junior Featherweight titlist Oscar Larios (who is jumping up 2 weight classes to Junior Lightweight for his big payday) to set up Erik Morales III as a ‘warm-up’. 7/8 will see the #1 Junior Middleweight at the moment (by virtue of beating former #1 Kassim Ouma) Roman Karmazin take on former lineal (IBF, WBA & WBC) and Ring magazine Welterweight champion Cory Spinks. On 7/15 Shane Mosley and Fernando Vargas are fighting again as well. On 7/22 Carlos Manuel Baldomir defends the lineal (WBC) and Ring magazine Welterweight belts against Arturo Gatti. On 7/29 Hasim Rahman will get his chance to avenge his brutal out of the ring KO loss to Oleg Maskaev in a WBC Heavyweight title defense and Antonio Margarito is expected to defend his WBO Welterweight title on the undercard of that PPV.

And I’m not even including the ‘lesser’ division titlists (Hasegawa, Sidorenko, Sturm, Diaz, Wonjongkam, Castillo, etc.) who are having title defenses (some less notable than others). And there’s some other fights that are scheduled to even happen later than July (Koki Kameda vs. Juan Jose Landaeta on 8/2 for the vacant WBA Junior Flyweight title, Ike Quartey vs. Vernon Forrest on 8/5, Rafael Marquez vs. Silence Mabuza II on 8/5 and so on) There’s plenty of noteworthy upcoming fights to talk about. 🙂

🙂 I totally agree. Well said.
