Art Dore comments on MMA

Here’s a link to an interview conducted with Toughman boss Art Dore in the Dayton Daily News. Money quote:
“I think the future of Toughman is very good. Around the country, in fact, people are complaining that it’s not tough enough compared to these other sports, like Ultimate Fighting. They’re saying, ‘You guys are a bunch of (wimps).'”
No, Art, people inside the MMA industry have been hoping that you don’t start promoting MMA. It’s been two years of rumors from Americans (on all the message boards including Sherdog and The Underground Forum) discussing whether or not individuals related to Toughman have been trying to get into the amateur MMA promoting business.
In other news…
Jason “Mayhem” Miller has been suspended indefinitely. Dayton Morinaga in the Honolulu Advertiser reports that promoter T Jay Thompson has replaced Miller on his February 25th ICON show with Niko Vitale. Vitale will face Robbie Lawler.
If you read the entire Advertiser article, you’ll notice this item about Wesley “Cabbage” Correira:
Esch won when Correira had to stop fighting after two rounds at the advice of the ringside doctors because he was diagnosed with a broken right arm.
Correira said he slipped on the concrete floor while warming up in his locker room and landed on his elbow.
“It was my call to go in there and fight,” he said. “I’m not going to back down. But it kept popping out during the fight and it was hurting me the whole time.”
Link of the day
In the past, I’ve argued that using a cage (as opposed to a pro-wrestling ring) is not a good idea for MMA promoters. Henrik Rautila has an article (titled “The Stigma of the caged fighter”) that also makes this argument.

Falaniko Vitale getting a second shot at Robbie Lawler after getting choked out in his last fight is giving me flashbacks to Justin Eilers getting KOd by Paul Buentello, then getting a title shot against Andrei Arlovski. Really, really screwy booking, but I guess they don’t think anyone else other than Vitale or Mayhem (who can’t fight now) will draw well against Lawler.
Too late Zach. Art Dore’s been running X-Fight Championships in Wash. since last October.

What gets me is this shit stain was one of the factors in getting MMA banned in Michigan so he can throw more Toughman fights. He gets banned a couple years later. Now he’s back, promoting ToughGloves (Wow. You’re real smart Art) under the illusion of safety.
F him and the horse he rode in on.
To their credit the X-Fighting Championships have been very good and safe shows.
Yeah, the last thing the MMA game needs is people confusing it with Toughman. We’re just now getting over the “Human cock fighting” and “Bloodsport” label in the eyes of the mainstream.
