ESPN marketing gone wrong: Their new concept for synergy to promote boxing
By Zach Arnold | March 4, 2009

Mike Greenberg of Mike & Mike in the Morning will be sparring with Teddy Atlas tomorrow for pre-taped segments for Friday Night Fights. I hope this is kept to a minimum on TV…

Agreed. I suppose there could be some unintentional comedy that comes out of it, but otherwise it’s a train wreck of an idea, imo.
Teddy can’t stop the metrosexual, he can only hope to contain him
Another take on the same, tired old boring morning radio show…Atlas may know boxing, but he comes off as a thug.
I’m sure that Greenberg will ignore his whining, metrasexual character as he pimps boxing, and there’ll be jokes about Golic’s weight (loss), and whatever else.
I used to listen to the program; it is no longer entertaining, and my guess is Atlas will try to bring a little life to a dying show. Won’t work.
Man, Teddy Atlas loves being on TV. Larry Hazzard has NOTHING on Teddy Atlas. I like Atlas, but he is an attention whore. Remember when his autobiography came out? He mentioned a story of when he was still training Donny Lalonde, and he said he was right outside Lalonde’s apartment, ready to murder him with a pistol. But then he thought about it, calmed down, and walked away. You know what Lalonde said about the story? It’s BULLSHIT! He said that Atlas more than likely made the story up to get attention for himself and to promote the book.
I don’t see what’s wrong with the idea at this point. Teddy really knows how to break down and explain boxing to people that may not see all the subtle nuances. I’m sure it will n an informative piece.
TG, I think the report says that the sparring will be shown on Friday Night Fights.
Atlas is way old and never could box. He may know a little about it, but he was no decent fighter. Greenberg is a voice on TV and radio. This is going to be goofy as hell.
And it is supposed to be goofy, duh. It is Mike Greenburg sparring with Teddy Atlas. You mean to tell me that ESPN ment for this to anything but goofy? Mike and Mike is watched and heard by more people than ever and is an extremely popular program. It is not dying in any sense of the word.
“And it is supposed to be goofy, duh.”
“Duh” is better said than written.
