Boxing: Japan’s next golden child

One of the things that often dominates coverage of MMA & pro-wrestling on slow days in the “battle” section of newspapers is boxing. 19-year old Koki Kameda (9-0, ranked #8 by the WBC in the 112-pound Flyweight division) was scheduled to face Edgar Sosa of Mexico on 3/8 in Tokyo at Ryogoku Kokugikan. Kameda’s manager (Kei’ichiro Kanehira) and gym team in Osaka are the promoters behind the fight. They announced today that Sosa cancelled due to a hand injury in training and that Carlos Bouchan of Mexico would take his place in the fight.
He’s the guy who is grabbing all the headlines now in the Japanese press.

Considering he took on veterans Saman Sorjaturong & Noel Arambulet and pretty much beat the crap out of them in his 7th & 9th pro fights, Kameda is definitely the biggest aspiring prospect in Boxing at the moment, IMO. Definitely a guy to watch and on the road to a HOF career at the moment.
