New Year’s Eve: Blackout
By Zach Arnold | December 31, 2005

I hope all of you (whether you are in Tokyo, Sydney, New York, London, or elsewhere) had a good New Year’s Eve. After doing 7 hours of PBP for the PRIDE Man Festival 3 show, a major storm hit the area that I live at and caused a massive power outage. 70,000 residents of approximately 105,000 residents in the county that I live in lost power for the whole day. It was a dark place, that’s for certain. Winds hit the area with gusts up to 95 mph and all sorts of transmission lines (for electricity) went down, plus cell towers and other forms of communications were shut down for long periods of time.
For those of you who do not live in the Oregon or Northern California area, please keep these folks in mind as you celebrate New Year’s day. There has been an enormous amount of flooding and storm damage that has really impacted the region. Weather reports estimate that Sunday could be just as bad as today was, so keep everyone in your thoughts and wish us all the best.

To close out 2005, here is an entertaining link to a video clip of the Heath Herring/Yoshihiro Nakao fight from the K-1 12/31 Osaka Dome show. Alternate link for the video.
Update: Northern Nevada has also been taking a beating from the weather. An area that I’ve had some experience visiting, Reno, has suffered some bad flood. Coverage: Reno Gazette Journal.

Hope you’re well, Zach. All the best, and a Happy New Year.
My thoughts are with the people on the northern left coast. Hopefully you and your family are okay.
That sucks to hear. Hopefully the storms, floods, and all that go away soon. I’m sure everything will turn out okay for everybody.
