Fox Sports: "Zach Arnold's Fight Opinion site is one of the best spots on the Web for thought-provoking MMA pieces."

About Fight Opinion

For several months now, I’ve contemplated the idea of creating a new web site that took the concept of bridging the gap between MMA & pro-wrestling to a higher level. I thought about several ways of doing this. The idea that I ultimately chose, however, is what you are seeing here at FightOpinion.com.

I wanted to find a new way to create a safe environment for people who work inside the fight industry (writers, fighters, promoters, etc.) to be able to interact with fans on a closer level. Consider this the creation of a community of conversation. This is not going to be a hot “news” site. This is not a glorified message board. It’s not necessarily a blog, either. Fight Opinion is a place where there can be a two-way conversation on the important issues in MMA, pro-wrestling, boxing, karate, and other martial arts in a fun, yet legitimate manner.

This is not going to be a “celebrity blog.” There are some notable examples of this on the Internet, and most of them in the end fail. What we are aiming to achieve on the Fight Opinion web site is to create an atmosphere of interactive content and bring answers to some questions that you might not normally gets answers to. For example, one of our goals is to try to get as many wrestlers or fighters as possible on the site to talk about how they prepare for matches, how they train, what their psychology going into a fight is, etc. Fight Opinion is a site that is trying to create an environment in which everyone can feel comfortable writing about their thoughts and opinions about the industry.

If you try to read anything more into these statements, you’ll give yourself a headache. So relax.

Most people know of me (Zach Arnold) from my PuroresuPower.com home page. I have a great group of friends who help out with content on the site (Adam Summers, Mike Sempervive, and Dr. Keith Lipinski). However, ultimately that site is focused on what I can post on it (the news, interesting Japanese topics, etc.) Fight Opinion is going to become a web site that isn’t about one person or one individual. It’s about an entire group of people who legitimately care about the sport they support or are participating in. The minute that Fight Opinion becomes a site about me first, then the purpose of the project will be lost for good.

The front page of the web site is designed so that everyone reading the site can interact with everyone who posts. However, consider it the same way as you would consider looking at the cover of a book. As we get further along (months and years) into the time period of this web site, I will be working with several people to develop content such as articles, video clips, audio clips, and other multimedia projects. There may be a print or online subscription format in the future for separate content on the web site. The possibilities of this web site, to me, are wide open.

A person who has greatly influenced the way I think about online content, the press, distribution, and conversation is Jeff Jarvis of Buzzmachine.com. I find his views about the Internet and online content to be 100% accurate. Today’s fight industry, more than ever (especially in the press), needs to restructure and change the way business is done. There is still a place for good journalism, photography, and other traditional print-style content. However, the method in which this content is distributed and the method in which fans are able to establish an emotional connection to the business will change. I hope that the Fight Opinion web site is going to become a part of this change in the business. It may happen overnight or take 15 years, but changes to the industry are coming and we hope to be right there when it happens.

I hope that you personally enjoy your visit to the FightOpinion.com web site. It is a project that is of minimal risk to me and has maximum upside. This web site is here to try to reflect the changing attitudes all over the world. Whether you are in Asia, Europe, America, or Australia, the fight industry is a global one (especially with MMA). The interaction of international fans and fighters is so important in maintaining the lifeblood of the fight industry. We hope that you support whatever aspect of the fight industry it is that you like, and I want to thank you for your continued support.
