About whether or not UFC does well with merchandise…

The show set the Acer Arena’s all-time merchandise record, which means beating numbers for a number of sold out WWE events. The old record was set by an Iron Maiden concert.

UFC, in fact, may have had more fans who bought merchandise than the total amount of cash Strikeforce made in merchandise sales (number: 8,000.)

If we do get into a situation like the LHW division, do we award a fighter for avoiding the grinder and taking sure wins against lesser opponents? Is going 3-1 against top 5 opponents worse or better than going 0-0 against them?

  2. liger05 says:

Now will the doubters finally accept that Noguiera is ‘shot’ and is finished. Ever since the Herring fight he was done but people used the excuses of he hasnt been 100% due to infections and injuries. He cant pull the trigger anymore. His knees are gone and his so slow being an easy target to hit.

Bisping is a gatekeeper and no more. Ko’ed v Henderson and beat by a W.Silva who is on the slide.

  3. Mark says:

Interesting how the same people gloating about Nogueira getting KOed somehow sticks it to “PRIDE fanboys” because it proves he was really done for when Mir beat him, but yet this elevates Velasquez in victory. So which is it? Did he beat a washed up has-been sitting duck with no reflexes or was this an impressive victory to solidify the future? Since someone compared Nogueira to Ali, this is either Fraizer beating Ali or Berbick beating Ali, not both. But then again, these same people also double talk about rankings (“They mean nothing! What a joke!” “Hey, why isn’t my favorite fighter ranked higher than yours!”) I guess it is to be expected.

And speaking of former PRIDE fighters with no reflexes, Bisping can’t beat 2010 Wanderlei? (Yeah, I know the decision was controversial to some, but he didn’t put him away.) I think that is far worse than Coleman getting destroyed by Randy and deserves an equally fast cutting. Not being able to UD let alone KO Wanderlei should be the gatekeeping to your UFC career. Keep Michael Bisping in the curtain jerking prelim so I don’t have to see him please.

Jardine needs to be fired like yesterday. He is completely worthless.

But let’s hear it for Stevenson-Sotiropoulos, that was what a great MMA fight is all about. I loved that.

  4. Jeremy (Not that Jeremy) says:

Who was the Wanderlei decision controversial to? Everyone here last night only thought that 29-28 was too generous to Bisping.

Wanderlei came in in fantastic shape, had a real game plan for probably the first time ever, and executed on it. Bisping’s foundation is his muay thai stance and taking out his lead leg and continuously pushing him back to the edge of the cage significantly reduced his mobility, making him a sitting duck for the big punches.

He caught a couple kicks and brought Bisping down EASILY and looked like he was ready to finish the fight at both the end of the second and third round, and only guts, luck, and the clock prevented it from ending at either spot.

That was the kind of performance that I’m excited to see any UFC fighter bring in to the cage.

  5. ajz123 says:

It’s absolutely hilarious that any thread that gets a high number of posts, ultimately deteriorates to a “Strikeforce sucks” and “Fedor is overrated” thread.

  6. Vic Mackey says:

“Who was the Wanderlei decision controversial to? Everyone here last night only thought that 29-28 was too generous to Bisping.”

    I agree. I was surprised it wasn’t 30-27.

Yep. Fanboys want to have their cake and eat it too.

    Super quick rundown:

Velasquez landed 8/8 punches at the end, 3 standing and 5 on the ground. That was freaky.

Wanderlei looked a little more comfortable, but he still didn’t move forward that much and had trouble pulling the trigger. However, he didn’t lose a moment of that fight. Bisping is who we thought he was.

Credit to Sotiropoulous, but that was an awful performance by Stevenson. He had no gameplan, and was blindly throwing lead left hooks on a guy who got tagged over and over with right crosses/hooks against Jason Dent. And Joe is right-handed. Simply baffling.

Jardine might want to consider hanging it up. His hands are atrocious, he can’t protect his chin, and he can’t take a punch. Even the most generous fans must realize by now “unorthodox” is code for “not very good”.

Funny how when Nog gets beat up and beat half to death only to pull out a last minute submission it’s somehow seen as a good thing. But when he gets simply beat up and finished now he’s done, newsflash Nog has always been easy to hit he’s just been able to capitalize on guys mistakes when he’s been hurt in the past.

Nog being finished by young and talented top ranked HW’s is no shame, I just don’t want to hear the excuses that come from his camp and his fanboys after he gets beat it because it makes him/them sound pathetic.

  9. Jeremy (Not that Jeremy) says:

    re: Unorthodox.

Well, you didn’t see it just with Jardine last night, you saw it with Bonnar as well.

That’s three in a row for each of them, but at least two of Jardine’s losses were against respectable opponents. I’m not sold on Bader yet, his record is clean but Jardine’s the only guy who’s actually been close to “there” that he’s fought.

  10. IceMuncher says:

While lots of people though Cain would win and Nog isn’t his former self, nobody thought Cain would do it the way he did. I personally thought Cain would use his speed and athleticism to edge him out to a comfortable decision victory, I wasn’t expecting Cain to come in and absolutely murder Nog.

His new status is not just for beating Nog, it’s about the manner in which he did it. If that concept escapes your comprehension, I can’t help you.

  11. Fluyid says:

“It’s absolutely hilarious that any thread that gets a high number of posts, ultimately deteriorates to a “Strikeforce sucks” and “Fedor is overrated” thread.”

I don’t find it funny at all. I find it tiresome. It makes me wonder about my posting brethren here.

  12. David M says:

“Depends who’s we?, in reality Fedor is basically living off reputation and has for years he’ll continue to be overated by hardcored just like most fighters outside of the UFC.
In the end whoever the UFC champion is after surviving what has become a deep very talented division over the past few years will be the best HW in the world to most mma fans.”

Absolutely horrid post. You are everything that is wrong with mma fans.

  13. Zack says:

I agree with Fluyid. It’s really made me scale back my time on this site.

  14. ajz123 says:

I meant hilarious in jest. I agree with you Fluyid and Zack. Let me replace the word with “pathetic.”

  15. Detective Roadblock says:

I think it is fair to say Fedor’s ranking is in trouble. I think he’d have trouble going 2-2 against the top of the UFC hw class right now.

Fedor’s rep is based on beating Nog and Cro Cop. Cro Cop has been exposed in UFC and Nog has gotten destroyed twice against guys who would likely pose huge problems for Fedor.

In Fedors last fight he got controlled on the ground by a guy who could maybe get a blue belt on his rep.

I don’t think Nog is done. I think Cain hits real hard. Nog looked lime he always does he just didn’t walk through those punches and keep coming. Which leads to the point of remember how tentatively Fedor fought him the 2nd and 3rd times. I used to be the biggest Fedor fan. But the shine is off him. Either he or his team is scared of the UFC guys and for good reason. That has to cost him.

  16. ajz123 says:

@ Detective Roadblock. Thank you for making my point. On a side note, when can we expect your “Tiger Woods is overrated” manifesto?

  17. Zack says:

Last night was a really entertaining UFC but the fanboys can’t stop thinking about Fedor. Crazy stuff, really.

  18. rainrider says:

    Velasquez, Carwin, Lesnar

Without these 3 guys, Fedor would have signed the deal with Zuffa.

Wrestlers will dominate the UFC, and eventually the sport.

  19. edub says:

Kinda funny how everyone got on 45.

You guys really have to put in so much work when all he did was say that he wishes strikeforce didn’t sign Fedor. So what he hates strikeforce?
    Rundown:
CB beat Reljic. Looks like Melanson was wrong again.
Bader Kod Jardine. Keith should probably go up against someone brand new next.
Bisping still looked halfway decent and Wand looked a little bit like the Wand of old. Of course he didnt have an opponent who could punch in front of him. I had Bisping winning 29-28 until the late barrage and knockdown from Wand.
Cain looked great. If Nog wants to keep fighting he should definately work his way back up by fighting someone like Congo next.
Good night of fights. Not great but good. Lytle with a fuckin Kneebar! Now that was awesome.

  20. liger05 says:

lol, fedor has so many haters its unreal.

  21. Mr.Roadblock says:

To be fair, Fedor has so many mindless nuthuggers it’s (proper use, unlike liger05) unreal.

45 does hate on everything not UFC. That is a fair point. But seeing what happened to Nog twice now against young, agile and big heavyweights with quick hands you have to reevaluate the myth of Fedor.

Look at Fedor’s record. What’s there beyond Nog and Cro Cop? Those guys have gotten their asses handed to them in UFC. Why would you think Fedor would be magically different?

  22. Mark says:

Um, because Fedor has more of a sound strategy than “take 100 punches for 1 takedown” and doesn’t need to see a shrink to work up the courage to even fight?

Not saying he’d for sure win because nobody knows until it happens. But he’s smarter than Nogueira and has 3 dimensions to his game unlike “look for a headkick” Cro Cop, so that makes him entirely different. The only thing they have in common is they worked together 4 years ago.

  23. klown says:

Yes, Fedor’s rep was built on beating Nogueira and CroCop IN THEIR PRIME (not today’s versions).

But Fedor has reconfirmed his #1 status by dispatching Sylvia, Arlovski and Rogers.

No other HW has (so far) racked up a similarly impressive record. Not Lesnar (a win over Couture and 1-1 with Mir). Not Carwin (a win over Gonzaga). And not Velasquez (wins over Nogueira and Kongo).

  24. liger05 says:

I really dont see how one can look at how Noguiera and Cro crop have done in the UFC and then claim Fedor would struggle like that. I mean does anyone really believe Fedor would struggle to beat Herring, lose to Gonzaga and Kendo get kocked out by Frank Mir. I just cant accept that.

Fedor is not Noguiera or Mirko. His better than that. The guy always finds a way to win.

  25. EJ says:

“Yes, Fedor’s rep was built on beating Nogueira and CroCop IN THEIR PRIME (not today’s versions).

But Fedor has reconfirmed his #1 status by dispatching Sylvia, Arlovski and Rogers.”

Wait how are you going to claim that Fedor beat CC and Nog in their prime then turn around and boast over his wins over AA and Sylvia when they weren’t in their prime?.

Nog and CC were both in their prime when they came to the UFC and they both got their ass beat by better fighters period. AA and Sylvia were both shells of their former selves by the time they left the UFC.

The fact is Nog, CC, Werdum and Herring were all predicted to come to the UFC and dominte and all 4 have been demolished in the cage. The only difference between them and Fedor is he is smart enough to know he would get wrecked aswell and wants no part of it at least they took on the challenge.

  26. Miller says:

If we want to play guessing games then you have to assume Cro Cop and Nog in their primes would be 2004-06 so who would they face in the HW division in UFC then: Mir, Arlovski, Sylvia, Monson, Kongo, McGee, Kimo, Cabbage, Abbott, Rodriguez, Rizzo, Telligman, Couture, ect. Even if you keep in that Kongo beat CC, Mir beat Nog and under UFC judging Rodriguez might have been given the decision against Nog they’d still do fantastic.

  27. edub says:

“UFC judging Rodriguez might have been given the decision against Nog they’d still do fantastic.”

Under any type of judging Ricco should have gotten the win. I watch that fight occasionally, and still I for the life of me can’t understand how Nog was given the decision. Same with the Randleman vs. Rutten title fight.

  28. Jonathan says:

Rutten was given the win because the UFC wanted him to win. That is plain and simple.
