Show preview

No one is better equipped to talk about the past, present, and future business climate of Mixed Martial Arts than Monte Cox. The man has seen it all. At one time, his stable included four UFC champions and over 30 active fighters. With the scene changing dramatically due to more events and more wannabe representatives throwing their hat into the field, Monte has a unique perspective on why so many agents fail in this cutthroat business environment.

There’s a difference between being a manager and being a supposed super agent. Many of the newcomers in the space are underperforming for their clients due to a lack of knowledge & negotiating skills. What does the UFC expect from managers? Monte sat down with us for a special Fight Opinion Radio interview to give everyone a true, honest insight as to what it takes to do business with the UFC. What are the tradeoffs between getting paid more versus getting paid less with a chance to fight an easier opponent and win bonus money? What kind of impact does a fighter’s personal reputation have at the negotiating table? Not every fighter is Matt Hughes or Rich Franklin, two model fighters who understood what their value was worth and how to make their manager’s life as easy as possible when conducting business. Monte has some words of wisdoms for up-and-coming fighters who aren’t sure how to build leverage in today’s business environment.

Monte currently managers fighters such as Bellator interim Lightweight champion Will Brooks and top UFC 135-pound female fighter Sara McMann.

Plus: What really happened with the whole fiasco involving Fedor & M-1 Global? Monte ended up a big financial winner but a lot of people lost in the process.

  1. Alan Conceicao says:

So, Jason Thacker seems to be likely to get into the UFC HOF before Frank Shamrock, Pat Miletich, Rich Franklin, BJ Penn, Don Frye, etc. What does one say to that?

  2. dave lebold says:

The link does not work for fight radio.

  3. Dr. J says:

The link should be working again
