I present to you the visual evidence from Twitter:

Jimmo says he’s in Florida right now. Dana’s going to be in Orlando on Monday morning. Maybe Dana will pay him a little visit now…

  1. Brian says:

I think Rios turned this into a bigger deal than it was. What’s wrong with being creeped out (but mildly flattered) that a gay person hit on you?

    Classic media overreaction.

Stick with the CSAC screw-ups please instead of trying to blow this out of proportion

    • Steve4192 says:

“What’s wrong with being creeped out (but mildly flattered) that a gay person hit on you?”

      Absolutely nothing.

I know plenty of women who get creeped out (but are mildly flattered) when a guy they aren’t attracted to ogles them. It’s a natural reaction.

  2. david m says:

This is such a fucking non story for overly sensitive people to get their panties in a knot over.

  3. Tomas Rios says:

Say Ye, say Ye, don’t we do this err-day-day?

Ryan Jimmo is ignorant and I called him ignorant. Factual statements are not overreactions.

  4. The Gaijin says:

Legit lol for Smoogy’s tweet. I did not know Magic Mike was based on the Ryan Jimmo story. He is in Florida after alll (Tampa?).

  5. Michaelthebox says:

Actually, Mr. Rios, I would call you ignorant.

Jimmo passes no judgments on gay people as individuals or as a group, nor does he pass judgment on the rights they should have, or even say what gay people should or should not do. He simply points out that he himself has a specific reaction to certain actions by gay people, namely, when he himself is “checked out” by gay people.

How about, instead of Jimmo not being allowed to have a certain feeling in response to his surroundings, gay people not be allowed to have their own feelings. How about gay people should reject their own feelings, and start acting like straight people, and feel attraction for women instead of men (for gay males, which is presumably the gay people to whom Jimmo refers).

Or, how about gay people can feel the way they feel, and Jimmo can feel the way he feels. The moment Jimmo tries to encroach upon the rights of gay people, or question their freedoms, or pass judgment on them, then go ahead and lay into him. But calling him out for expressing that he himself has feelings?

I also enjoy that you put words into his mouth. Jimmo did not call gay people gross; he said he was grossed out by certain actions that gay people might do. Likewise, I do not generally find women gross, but if a woman were to suddenly start eating slugs, I would be grossed out by her actions.

Jimmo is grossed out by gay people checking them out. He doesn’t tell them not to, and he even acknowledges being flattered by it. Even if his instinctual reaction is disgust, he can see through that to recognize and accept the compliment being paid.

Although I think Jimmo’s disgust is silly, I believe he is free to feel that way.

    Your behavior? Much more disgusting.

    • 45 Huddle says:

      Let’s do a little word replacement exercise…

“I feel the same way about BLACKS and fat chicks…. when they check me out I’m grossed out but still flattered.”

That would be a racist comment. And nobody would defend it in 2012.

“I feel the same way about DOWNS PEOPLE and fat chicks…. when they check me out I’m grossed out but still flattered.”

Once again, this would be a completely wrong comment to make in 2012.

But somehow if you make an anti-gay comment…. Which let’s be honest…. That is exactly what he is saying…. You will get people defending his right to an opinion.

You are right. He has a right to being a BIGOT. And people have a right to call him out on it. And Zuffa has a right to FIRE HIS ASS over being a BIGOT.

Mr. Rios was 100% in the right for calling him on his BS.

      • Michaelthebox says:

Interesting points. I don’t necessarily agree, but I see where you are coming from.

      • Light23 says:

The problem with your word substitution experiment, is that most people don’t find black woman completely unattractive, and wouldn’t find it weird and creepy to have sex with them.

And if they did, it may very well be an strong indicator of racial prejudice.

On the other hand, Ryan Jimmo is only attracted to females, due to his genetics. Fucking a guy would be weird for him, so it weirds him out when they seem like they want to fuck him.

        • Chuck says:

          Light23;

You COMPLETELY missed 45’s point. His point is that saying something bigoted is saying something bigoted, regardless of what group it’s aimed at. Saying bigoted things about black people is just as bad as saying bigoted things about LBTGs. It’s not about being attracted to other men (or black women, or whatever). It’s about not saying something stupid and prejudiced.

        • Light23 says:

I don’t see how it’s bigoted to say it’s gross when men check you out (i.e. show interest in having sex with you).

        • Light23 says:

If I say men having sex with each other is kinda gross is it bigoted?

What if you substitute “men” with “old people” am I now bigoted against old people?

What about if you substitute “old people” with “my parents” am I now bigoted against my parents?

In reality, the first statement isn’t bigoted – people just assume it is due to the fact that there’s a lot of bigots who hate gay people, and that might be the type of thing they’d say.

It’s hard to equate “I’m creeped out by men hitting on me” with “I hate teh gays, those gross, disgusting peeples!”

  6. 45 Huddle says:

I do not see how this is an over reaction. He should be fired for his bigoted comments.

You guys do realize that like 50% of the teen suicides in this country are by gay and lesbian kids. This type of talk by Jimmo only helps continue that sort of trend. By making it “cool” to talk negatively about somebody because of who they date.

I never understood why people are so freaked out by what other people do with their privates….

  7. The Gaijin says:

The whole thing is ignorant and so stupid in 2012, especially given all the issues the UFC (and everyone else) has had with these type of comments.

Is it that tough to get it through your thick skulls boys? The fact people are STILL looking for ways to defend this crap is mind blowing. People have some really strange issues with gay people – newsflash they are not going to try to “turn you gay” and are not interested in people who aren’t gay either. Even if Jimmo’s comments aren’t as stupid and offensive as others have been doesn’t make them any more acceptable.

  8. Michaelthebox says:

By the way, where is the outrage here over the “grossed out by fat chicks” aspect of Jimmo’s comment?

    • Megatherium says:

I guess fat chicks fdeelings aren’t important?

      • The Gaijin says:

        Really guys?

It’s certainly a non-gentlemanly thing to say and shows that he’s got the iq of a frat boy and comedic tastes of a 15 year old, but trying to equate the remark about overweight women with a distinct and long discriminated against group of minority individuals is a bit misguided.

Also I don’t see this whole “the internet is just overreacting!!!!!” people have just called it what it is, an ignorant and stupid comment in this day and age. It is especially tone deaf given all of the Twitter issues fighters have had recently.

        • Michaelthebox says:

The Gaijin, when was the last time fat women were NOT discriminated against?

There was recently a large uproar over an obese anchorwoman who received a letter chiding her for her weight. Many if not most overweight women experience discrimination and bullying regularly during their lives.

I find it funny the things people pick and choose to get upset about, and then the reasons they use to justify being upset about one thing and not another.

        • Michaelthebox says:

Let me state further: Jimmo literally said the EXACT same negative thing about two different groups of people. One group it is apparently ok to say that about. The other group it is not ok to say that about.

What was that about gay people being discriminated against? If anything, this shows that gay people are a protected class, at least relative to fat women.

        • The Gaijin says:

For starters, Rios called him out on both.

Bullying is a completely different subject (re. terrible treatment towards fat women and gays, both equally mean and ignorant) from the systemic and historic discrimination based on a personal factor that someone was born with and cannot change. For the most part, aside from medical/glandular problems (or other underyling factors aside from not being in good shape), a fat person is able to change their physical appearance/body without being asked to change everything else that makes them themselves – e.g. you can stop being obese, but you can’t stop being black or gay. Last time I checked fat women as a group weren’t barred from marrying, enlisting the army (even if they could meet the physical requirements), going to prom with their significant other, etc., etc.

Stupid comment by Jimmo, stupid comment by you and everyone else trying to defend it. It’s not some national deal we need to be making about it, other than “here we go again, when are they going to learn”, but defending it is dumb too – it’s just not acceptable, especially from a professional athlete in the public eye.

        • Michaelthebox says:

And, for the thousandth time, Jimmo has not suggested that gay people should be prevented from marrying, enlisting in the army, or anything else.

He’s just being an asshole to two groups of people, and you’re getting on his case about only one of those groups of people. Feel free to continue justifying and insulting those who disagree, as it is fairly clear we do not have common ground on this issue.

    • Megatherium says:

Listen up, Ryan Jimmo. This message is for you.

      http://youtu.be/MXIk9VJyHy4

  9. canadiansteel says:

The obvious point proved here: men have become oversensitive, attention starved teenage girls.

  10. canadiansteel says:

Nothing bigoted was said by jimmo, god forbid a person makes a joke. Actually, god forbid a straight male make a joke. It’s embarrassing that an adult actually read jimmos statement and was offended.

    • The Gaijin says:

There’s literally millions of topics to make “jokes” about…he couldn’t just leave an inflammatory and insensitive topic like that alone?

Not to mention it wasn’t funny, which is basically the #1 rule of comedy if you’re going to delve into non-PC topics.

It was just poor judgment, plain and simple…and he only served to make it worse by attacking Rios and saying “Well you must be an overweight gay then! HUR DER HUR!!” LOLCATZ

      • Megatherium says:

Seriously, in a world where you say the wrong thing and you disappear from the public view forever, it does boggle my mind that athletes continue to use twitter. It’s a snake pit full of ‘gotcha’ just waiting to ensnare the unsuspecting dumbass in a world of career hurt. Best avoid those treacherous waters, especially without media training. These guys should know better by now than to EVER offer up anything other than the safest of sports cliches for public consumption by now.

That’s the way everyone wants it, especially media.

  11. canadiansteel says:

I bet if a gay man tweeted that his natural reactions to straight people coming onto him was disgust, nobody would hear a damn thing. Guess what? It makes sense! Idiots.

    • Light23 says:

Indeed. If a gay man was grossed out when woman hit on him, is he bigoted against straight women? I mean, he must hold some kind of prejudice against them and hate them?…

      • Megatherium says:

Actually, truth be told, gay men usually do dislike women, at least the ones I know.

        Just ‘keepin’ it real’ here.

  12. Chris says:

Not the worst thing that’s been put out on Twitter, but not very smart.

  13. Jason Harris says:

I for one am shocked that Thomas Rios was involved in making a random comment into some huge “controversy”. This is so unlike him!

It’s not like Thomas Rios pretty much entirely has made his name by drumming up controversy about someone in MMA saying a bad word or anything.

    • david m says:

Tomas Rios has a name? I had never heard of him until this.

People who are making a big deal of this are being silly at best; not enjoying being hit on by a man, does not make a heterosexual man a homophobe. Jimmo made a joke that was not the least bit homophobic and you are acting like he say “I HATE FAGS!”

      • The Gaijin says:

“not enjoying being hit on by a man, does not make a heterosexual man a homophobe.”

Yeah, because gay men are just CONSTANTLY hitting on straight men. Like, ALL. THE. TIME.

Give me a g-d damned break.

Even if this fictitious hitting on was happening, which is one of my main issues – it probably NEVER happened but he’s using it as a way to make a joke/take a jab at these lusty gay men and/or fat chicks – is the guy that unconfident in his sexuality or status as a manly, red-blooded male that something that (which he presumably has no control over) “grosses him out”. Where exactly is this magnet of sexual attraction going that he’s getting hit on by these “gats and fat chicks”.

        • rickards says:

this is nonsense. you’re getting worked up for nothing. calm down.

he should have kept his thoughts and feelings in-check on a public forum, but I know what was inferred from his comment, and it is not what you’re claiming.

context. him personally seeing someone check him out. him thinking of them possibly fantasizing about doing whatever with him, sexually. I have no issue with people having their preferences — whether it’s gay, straight, blacks, fat chicks, skinny chicks or chicks with hairy armpits — but i agree he surely, being a public figure and all, should have kept it private.

        • david m says:

look man, I live in a very gay area of DC, and sometimes when I jog I get whistled at by dudes. I don’t like it, and I am not homophobic in the least. It is (I would imagine) how girls feel when dudes they aren’t interested in grind up on them at a club or won’t stop talking them to at a bar or stare at them. Saying one does not enjoy sexual attention from a party deemed unattractive is not anything controversial.

  14. Alan Conceicao says:

I don’t need a reason to not like Ryan Jimmo the fighter. Has anyone seen him in MFC? Seriously. One super fast KO against a guy who got his UFC contract to be cannon fodder and it’s like the last 5 years never happened.

  15. RST says:

I dont really have a aproblem with anything jimmo said.

If he himself is also a stripper, then it does seem contradictory, but it also seems like he knows first hand what he’s talking about, and a truth is independent of who utters it.

    If hitler said 2+2=4.

    2+2 would still equal 4.
