It’s not on the level of Viacom buying a majority stake in Bellator, but it’s good news nonetheless.

ONE Fighting Championship™ announces largest MMA network in Asian history

26 October, 2011 – Singapore: ONE Fighting Championship™ has signed mutually exclusive partnerships with most of the major Asian MMA promotions and MMA gyms in Asia as a part of its ONE Asia strategy to unify all the key players in the sport of MMA in Asia. The ONE Asia Partnership Network is the largest of its kind in MMA history in Asia.

ONE Fighting Championship™ has formed exclusive partnerships with the following organizations:

-URCC (Philippines)
-Cage Fighting Championship (Australia)
-ROAD Fighting Championship (Korea)
-DARE Fightsports (Thailand)
-Team Lakay Wushu (Philippines)
-Tiger Muay Thai and MMA (Thailand)
-Tigers Gym (India)
-Evolve Mixed Martial Arts (Singapore)
-Legacy Gym (Thailand)

Victor Cui, CEO/Owner of ONE Fighting Championship, said, ”Our goal is to unify Asian MMA and to build the sport that we all love dearly. With today’s announcement, many of the top MMA organizations and gyms in Asia have joined hands. Given our current discussions with various parties, we will be announcing another 23 additional MMA organizations and gyms to the ONE FC Network in the coming days and weeks. These strong partnerships will help to accelerate the development of Asian fighters and the sport of MMA in the region. Asian fighters need platforms to gain invaluable experience and to showcase their skills to the world. If you are a ONE FC fighter, you will automatically be able to compete in the biggest MMA events across Asia within the ONE FC Network. If you are a sponsor, you will be able to leverage and target your sponsorship dollars across multiple platforms. If you are a fan, you will enjoy many more high quality MMA shows around Asia. It should be interesting to see where ONE FC is by the end of 2012. Something tells me they will certainly be around…. But not a major player still.

It looks like ONE FC is taking this very seriously. I’ve been pretty negative on Asian MMA, outside of Japan that is, Japan is a whole other discussion. Across Asia the level of MMA knowledge is not much higher than it was in the US in 1993, however it’s a great sport and maybe ONEFC is the company to make the difference.

They seem to be making the right connections across the region and that’s what is required. It’s anybody’s guess as to how this might evolve. I highly doubt there will be any serious local fighters for some years. Even the Thai boxers that competed in ONEFC in Singapore are very low level ground fighter guys.

It’s really easy to get Thai boxers to go fight and train in Singapore, these Thai guys are generally from the provinces and are quite poor. Not poor in the sense they are lacking for food but poor in terms of any kind of equity or income potential. ONEFC can pay their food and accomodations in Singapore and pay them US$200 salary and they’ll be thrilled. Even high level Thai boxers.

Hopefully this will take off but I suspect it will take many many years.

I don’t buy them ever really being a player. I know a lot of people are all geeked up on them but seriously; the level of talent is low. Real low. That they sell a lot of tickets with bad talent while trying to bounce from (best I can tell) government owned facilities and casinos doesn’t mean much to me. I’ll eat a big bowl of crow if their show in Malaysia isn’t in Sentosa, where there’s been plenty of casino paid for MMA shows for years to no real effect.

I guess my favorite failed boxing promoter found his way to consistent paychecks for a few more years. You know, if Viacom is happy with the ratings Bellator on Spike will produce (which I’m guessing will be something like a consistent .5 or .6) then they’ll survive for a good long time as the Friday Night Fights of MMA. I don’t personally care enough to keep watching them, but whatever. They don’t hurt me personally and they’ll keep guys employed and give them TV time.

      • 45 Huddle says:

That’s about the ratings I figured they will end up pulling in.

I hope they change the lighting and the grey mats. That strain on my eyes is definitely one of the reasons keeping me from watching them most of the time.

And then when they do have interesting fights like Askren/Hieron…. They book it against the UFC’s PPV. Doesn’t make much since.

With TUF being on Friday’s, I doubt they will go to that day. And we have seen Saturday’s just isn’t a good day for them due to all of the other competition. They will have to stick to Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. Which will be much better for ratings. But then their live gates will suffer.

I think it’s going to end up feeling much like TNA does. Where it’s there. Small crowds. It’s different then the established big company. But it doesn’t do much in getting fans interest on the larger scale.

All SpikeTV needs now is the WNBA…. And they will be a serious who cares contender!!

45 anything that isnt the ufc you hate. thats pretty much established

  5. tbag says:

I Would much rather watch this than that childish UFC drama. WWE-esque trash talking and flexing on each other, shit reminds me of high school.
