Anderson Silva: “Sometimes the fans don’t understand exactly what’s going on inside the Octagon” and “I’m a very humble person”

Click on the picture to watch one of the goofiest MMA interviews

Half of the interview with Anderson speaking in English, half of it in Portuguese with Ed Soares talking. I encourage you to watch the interview just to get a feel for Anderson’s mood, plus he dances at the end of the video.

Full-page mode for the quotes, but let’s just say that he’s starting to warm up more to the media spotlight.

How are you doing right now, Anderson?

“I’m fine, I’m fine. I’m just staying here for the fight with my friend Rogerio. I’m happy. I’m so happy staying here.”

You seem to be in a happy mood, signing autographs.

“Hey, the people love UFC. UFC’s my house. I love the people. I love my fans.”

You like the interaction?

“Yeah, love it.”

Are you doing this in part because of the reaction coming out of the UFC 112 Abu Dhabi fight?

ED SOARES: “Yeah, you know, I’m not here mingling with the fans because of the misunderstood fight that I had last time. It’s just simply because they deserve it. You know, they’re here, they’re fans, they pay for the PPV and sometimes the fans don’t understand exactly what’s going on inside the Octagon. Unfortunately, they’re used to seeing a knockout and sometimes they can think that you can knock them out whenever you please, but it just doesn’t work that way. You have a strategy, this is a sport, it’s a dangerous sport and you got to make sure to go in there and protect yourself. My strategy was done. I fought all the way until the end and completed my strategy, but sometimes you know the fans, I understand, they pay to see a knockout. They pay to see a big finish, but sometimes it doesn’t happen.”

Are there misconceptions about you in the MMA community?

ED SOARES: “He says that you know I do think a lot of fans have misunderstood me, you know, I said that you know I worked my butt to get here, I’m a very humble person even though some people didn’t think that I haven’t been humble, but I wouldn’t have gotten to where I’ve gotten if I wasn’t humble. So, you know, I just work hard every day and just trying to do the best that I can.”

What is your relationship like with Dana White?

ED SOARES: “He says, well I hope it’s good, I haven’t seen him yet. I’m going to see him over the next couple days. It’s all good, right Dana? We’re good.”

What did Dana White say to you after your UFC 112 fight?

“Anderson, I love you.”

Chael Sonnen has called you a fraud and attacked your character. Have you taken any of his comments to heart?

(During question, Anderson does a mocking gesture of being scared.)

“No. Nothing.”

Sonnen says he’s the man to figure you out and beat you.

(During question, Anderson gets bugged-eyed and puts his hand over his mouth in a mocking tone.)

“It’s fine. It’s OK. No problem.”

Do you have a message for Chael Sonnen?

(Anderson blows a kiss to the camera.)

“I love it. Guy talks. Blah blah blah blah blah. Go inside the ring, the Octagon, it’s different.”

Are you going into the fight against Chael Sonnen with a different mindset to prove your critics wrong?

ED SOARES: “Chael’s getting his opportunity to step up and you know fulfill a dream of his and you know there’s a lot of fighters out there that are frustrated fighters that say a lot of things that aren’t true. They’re just trying to hype the fight, but he’s going to have his opportunity on August 7th and you know a lot of people talk. We’ll see what happens.”

  1. Mark says:

That was awesome. Maybe Silva can actually have a big buyrate at 185 for a change if he keeps this up instead of having Soares do interviews for him combined with Sonnen talking to anybody with a microphone and/or video camera.

  2. Bob says:

    Zach,

I got a laugh this morning when I read Chael’s latest tweet. Assuming it was directed to Ed Soares.

    “From sonnench

Ed, pray to whatever Demon effigy you prance and dance in front of with your piglet tribe of savages that I decide not to CRUCIFY you.”

I’m not sure if he meant pygmy instead of piglet, but the humor (albeit a bit harsh) still works with dancing piglets.

    • Mark says:

Does he mean the MMA crucifix hold or the Jesus style? And if it’s Jesus style, won’t that be infringing on Kimo’s gimmick?

  3. EJ says:

Sonnen is going to be the best and worst thing in the world for Anderson Silva. The best because he’ll make people care about him after the Maia debacle and the worst because he’s going to beat him and take his belt.

  4. Dave says:

    Anderson rules.

  5. kutti says:

anderson is a grat fighter..but he should stop trying to be funny, because he isnt. sometimes i wonder if anderson is the first gay mma-fighter ? time will show.

  6. bob says:

“Plus, he dances at the end”.

    Wasn’t expecting that 🙂

  7. SixT-4 says:

This is weird. If you watch other Silva interviews he’s been clowning reporters for a while now.

It’s like he’s so much better than everyone else, he thinks MMA is a joke and is just trolling the entire fanbase.
