I can't see how Barnett can be on anyone's lists at the moment. Someone earlier said that he was "afraid" to get licenced in the US. That's not quite accurate - he was REFUSED a licence in California because he tested positive for steroids. Again. If he can't be licenced somewhere, I don't think he should be eligible to be on any lists.

I gotta admit so far Dynamite is doing nothing for me personally.

I just hope these much talked about other fights can "save" the show. Then again with such short notice, it's difficult to take these fights seriously.

I have no idea what it means to say "if you go by wins over ranked opponents" and then have a guy with exactly one win over a top-10 opponent ranked second.

I'd say:

1. Fedor
2. Nog
3. Barnett
4. Brock
5. JDS
6. Rogers
7. Werdum
8. Arlovski
9. Mir
10.Velasquez

Since coming to the UFC, Nog has beaten Herring, Sylvia, and Couture and lost to Mir. Brock has beaten Herring, Couture, and Mir, and lost to Mir. Nog was ranked much higher before those respective runs began. I don't see the argument for ranking Brock over Nog, though I'd probably pick him to win at this point.

Sylvia claim to a spot in the rankings is going 2-1 against Arlovski.

As for his losses, they are against the very best athletes in the division: Fedor (#1), Mir (#3), Nogueira (#4) and Couture (#5). Are you kidding me? Those are 4 of the most fearsome fighters in MMA. Sylvia deserves an award just for stepping in the cage with those guys...

The elephant in the room is Sylvia's loss to Mercer. I think there's too much weirdness surrounding that fight for me to count it as a legit MMA contest. There's no doubt it exposed Sylvia's chin. Until he starts being leapfrogged by other fighters, I'm keeping him where is.

The leapfrogging could commence soon. If Carwin beats Mir, Velasquez beats Nogueira, and Yvel beats JDS, Sylvia drops 3 spots right there.

<em>"It’s not so much about Overeem. I can understand not ranking him very highly even though he is obviously one of the best fighters in the division. It’s just the pattern of “Fedor first, then all the relevant UFC HWs, and then everyone else” in the rankings that makes me suspect a shill."</em>

Where's your top ten?

Klown your list is very good. I think Sylvia is too high on it though.

Overeems best work is at 205lbs. He has fought nobody at HW. His K-1 fights have no bearing on MMA. If they did you'd have to put Schilt and Hari up there. Sounds stupid, doesn't it?

Imagining how guys would do in fantasy fights is not supposed to factor in ratings. But I'm pretty sure that's the only way people rank Overeem as high as they do. If you want to play fantasyland I don't think Overeem would have much different results from Kongo if givn the same schedule. They even have one common opponent Cro Cop and those fights went similarly. Except for Cop getting himslef DQd against Overeem.

The reason UFC guys dominate the rankings now is that they're constantly fighting and fighting solid competition. For guys not in UFC they're fighting here and there and he quality of opponents varies greatly. This is why PRIDEs top guys were ranked so high back in the day. I think it is fair now to ask if Fedor, Nog and Cop helped make each other overvalued but they did it by fighting often.
