"We are planning to face Fedor after the first quarter of 2010 in Strikeforce in a heavyweight title defense when the money is good and guaranteed!"

Well, so much for all of Overeem's claims that he signed a contract with Strikeforce and was going to fulfill it, if not for that pesky hand injury that somehow doesn't prevent him from taking K-1 fights. The reality is now, and has been all along, that he's not going to fight in Strikeforce without another big raise. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, but there is something wrong with lying about it for all these months. At least now they're being publicly upfront about the fact that they want more money.

Strikeforce is getting stronger?

SF Heavyweight Champion (Overeem) - Is completely avoiding fighting in the states.
SF Light Heavyweight Champion (Mousasi) - Went on record in the last week or so and said his goal is to become UFC Champion. That has to make SF happy!!
SF Middleweight Champion (Vacant) - I don't see Shields losing. And he is likely on his way to the UFC at some point.
SF Welterweight Champion (Vacant) - And will continue to stay vacant as SF and Showtime have zero faith in Nick Diaz and have no other credible opponent for Jay Hieron. It doesn't help matters that Diaz's camp has already threatened to get Nick back into the UFC.
SF Lightweight Champion (Thomson) - This guy is about as healthy as my 80 year old Grandmother.

Then look at the stars.... Carano is off making a movie. Shamrock is finished as a fighter who can beat anybody credible. Cung Le is off making movies.

Yeap, Strikeforce is doing very good. The icing on the cake is the horrible job being done to promote Fedor vs. Rogers. Want more proof..... Patrick Freitas from The UG:

"the promotional value the TV networks bring may be the MOST IMPORTANT factor in a promotion's success. this is true whether we're talking UFC & SpikeTV, Strikeforce & CBS/Sho, and the WEC & VS.

when i was the marketing manager at EliteXC it always troubled me that CBS (aside from the event that followed March Madness) did a bare minumum job of promoting the brand & events. EliteXC's leadership was mostly to blame for its failure, but CBS also contributed by failing to actively promote the brand. and now it kinda looks like they're giving Strikeforce the same red-headed stepchild treatment. its not enough just to broadcast the live event...it has to be heavily promoted to the viewers first, especially with the UFC's monopoly standing in the sport. and 2-3 week out promos just dont cut it...Fedor v Rogers was announced a while ago, so there's been ample time to kickstart the campaign to make it a huge success.

SpikeTV promotes the UFC at every break. CBS cant do the same volume, but - aside from a regular promo schedule - there should at least be more of a concerted effort to cross promote, especially with CBS' sports, late night talk, and morning news programs. there's also available program inventory on the weekends that could be used for a countdown show. and there's also a complete lack of any viral campaign, which is inexcusable given the nature of the fanbase."

Also, Strikeforce needs to offer Overeem a fight already. They haven't, by the way.

I know people in the past were blaming Overeem or GG, but since the injury they haven't been knocking. They really need to get on the ball, I'll agree with 45 on that.

Zach, Overeem has been confirmed for the GG show for quite a while now.

Last I talked to Bas it was more a matter for finding an opponent for Overeem as opposed to his plate being too full. I think that statement from Boon might be old or at least recycled.

Seeing as though he has been in promotional material for both shows, I think we'll see him on both. He has been confirmed for GG11 and rumored for DREAM.12 for quite a while. Hoger's camp has more or less confirmed the fight with their "95% finalized" comments.

45 Huddle,

Man, does Strikeforce look really weak right now.

Actually, no they don't. They look like they are getting stronger and creating champs in every weight class.

Y'all might want to read what Boon said -- he said Overeem would fight at the DREAM show, he didn't mention the Hoger fight at all.

There is no way Hoger can use a closed guard tactic to avoid damage from a beefier Overeem though. I think Hoger gets can crushed inside three minutes.
