RDS (Canada) report: Stephane Patry is bringing back Strikeboxing

By Zach Arnold | May 13, 2009

Print Friendly and PDF

Jean-Paul Chartrand has a report claiming that Stephane Patry, the former promoter for TKO in Quebec and the former agent for Georges St. Pierre and David Loiseau, will be bringing back Strikeboxing as soon as the end of this Summer, likely in the United States first and then a tentative date of November in Montréal with Steve Bossé as the headliner.

Ryan Harkness reports that the Quebec athletic commission is messing around with MMA promoters not named UFC. Read his report for more details.

TUF 10: Coaches are Rampage and UFC 98 Winner…

I don’t mind this too much, as after Rampage, there isn’t a definitive #1 contender. This will allow guys like Rua, Griffin, Cane, and others to work their way towards a title shot.

  2. The Gaijin says:

This is where we see if Zuffa is actually interested in “growing mma” and all that jazz or just interested in Zuffa (which is quite within their rights). They have the muscle, lobbying and marketing to come in there and get Quebec straightened out – whether they do or not is there call. I imagine they’ll only make noise when it’s their shows that are in danger.

IMHO – it’s also for their own interest that these grassroots, regional mma promotions keep alive and running because this is where their future stars come from. No XMMA (nee TKO), probably no GSP…that would be sad.

Dana, Ratner and the boys – step up!

  3. Pierre-Luc Allie says:

Patry said in an interview following the event that the New Jersey commission called him, to see if he was interrested in bringing a show in NJ.

  4. jr says:

The commission should be ashamed of itself. During the recession they shouldn’t be turning down anything that will create tax revenue and tourism at the same time

  5. Ivan Trembow says:

The athletic commission in Quebec would never go through with this for a UFC event. They backed down fairly quickly prior to UFC 97, and I’m sure they will find it in their hearts to allow an MMA event the next time the UFC wants to have one in Quebec.

Of course, athletic commissions should treat all promotions the same, but that’s not how it actually works.

Another example: The Ohio commission doesn’t enforce its own rules on day-of-the-fight weigh-ins for UFC events.

The pro wrestling industry has been through this as well, with many athletic commissions enforcing one set of rules for WWE and another set of rules for everyone else. You’d think that athletic commissions might want to be more professional and consistent when it comes to legitimate sporting events, but apparently not.

  6. Alan Conceicao says:

TUF 10: Coaches are Rampage and UFC 98 Winner…

I like the fight fine. The problem is 1) waiting till December 2) having to suffer through another TUF season.
