Report: UFC 97 Montreal event saved

By Zach Arnold | February 18, 2009

According to Corus Sports, Tuesday’s meeting between UFC management and the RACJ in Montreal produced a successful outcome and that the UFC 97 event will continue as scheduled in Montreal on April 19th. The same Unified Rules that UFC uses will be in place for the UFC 97 show.

The Corus Sports report indicated that UFC would be willing to give up foot stomping as a concession (if needed). The report stated that Marc Ratner and Lorenzo Fertitta met with the RACJ at 5 PM on Tuesday with Richard Renault and Denis Racicot (RACJ President). Both Fertitta and Ratner left for Europe after the meeting. If UFC 97 could not have taken place in Montreal, it would have happened at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

So do they mean foot stomps to the opponents foot? Because as far as I know any other type of footstomp is illegal no?

  2. [...] flera källor har kommissionen och UFC kommit till samförstånd gällande de regler som ska implementeras vid [...]

  3. Steve4192 says:

The word that precedes stomp refers to the body you are stomping, not the bodypart you are using to stomp. The word stomp already implies that you are using the foot as a weapon. Hence, footstomp = stomping on your opponent’s foot.

The other type of stomp is a headstomp = stomping on your opponent’s head.
