  1. dana says:

No offense to Hiromitsu but Condit’s performance was not very good. Every fighter is allowed some off nights but thats not what happened. Carlos appeared to lack some tangibles in the striking game, speed and power.

Carlos Condit looks to me like he comes form the Nick Diaz mold. A wizard off his back, good chin, and soild technicle kickboxing, poor explosiveness.

    Good fight though.

  2. Grape Knee High says:

Great fight, but I just wish it didn’t have the spectre of “bad reffing” behind the victory.

Condit was clearly on his way to a win, and no, Josh Rosenthal, he didn’t need your transparent bias to help him.

The smile and encouragement by Rosenthal post-fight was also discouraging. Even Dan Miragliotta wasn’t stupid enough to do that.

  3. cyph says:

Agreed. Not very subtle, Rosenthal. You’re now in the category of bad ref. Being biased is worse than being incompetent.

  4. Kelvin says:

Miura was done..if not from the knee/strikes…exhaustion…he couldn’t even get off the mat.

  5. Mr. Roadblock says:

I was rooting for Miura but I think he punched himself out with his barrage mid round and was simply exhausted by the end.

Also if you rewatch the end of the fight Rosenthal smiles when apologizes to Condit. You can hear him say, “sorry about that knee.” When Rosenthal went in to break up the fight he lands a knee flush to Condit’s face by accident.

  6. Grape Knee High says:

Oh, is that what Rosenthal said? Thank god. I thought he was congratulating Condit on the last knee, which would have been crazy if true.

  7. Mr. Roadblock says:

I thought he was too. I had to rewind the DVR.

  8. Zack says:

“Miura was done..if not from the knee/strikes…exhaustion…he couldn’t even get off the mat.”

    This doesn’t address the standups.

  9. CapnHulk says:

Well, his grandmother did die a few days before.

    That’d throw me off.

  10. Rollo the Cat says:

Classic fight and FOTY candidate. One of the bloggers, I forget who, has been on Rosenthal for a while. I have to agree now. He was terrible tonight. Still, the fight was great.

Did anyone think the announcers underplayed the action a bit?

  11. 45 Huddle says:

I had no problems with the standups. When Condit was on top, he typically had side control. It is very rare for refs to use standups from that position. When Miura was on top he was in Condits guard. Big difference.

And the stoppage was good too. Miura dropped to the ground hard from a knee and basically took many unanswered blows. I was rooting for the upset but it was a good call.

  12. Jeremy (not that Jeremy) says:

I think Frank Mir may have been under the weather or something. He basically admitted to zoning out during the first fight. Well, not zoning out, just being utterly engrossed and forgetting to talk, but it’s basically the same.

  13. Kelvin says:

“I had no problems with the standups. When Condit was on top, he typically had side control. It is very rare for refs to use standups from that position. When Miura was on top he was in Condits guard. Big difference”

    Basically.

  14. IceMuncher says:

The standups were justified. Miura was doing nothing when he stood them up. I challenge you to find a standup where Miura was in the middle of trying to GNP or advance. It always happened after 10-15 seconds of just lying in the guard and catching his breath.
