Report: Nick Diaz fails to make weight for EXC fight

By Zach Arnold | June 13, 2008

Seemingly, yet another fighter (Nick Diaz) has reportedly failed to make weight for his Saturday Elite XC fight against Muhsin Corbbrey.

Instead of the scheduled weight limit of 160 pounds for the fight, Diaz and Corbbrey will fight at 168 pounds. Diaz supposedly missed making weight by nine pounds.

Wtf coming in “two Caranos” overweight.
(I stole that joke from the UG =))

If you remember Diaz was 183 at the time of the fight when he fought KJ Noons..

If he cut as much as that this time and can put on as many pounds again that means that he will come in well over 190 for this fight.

with all due respect to nick diaz but 8 pounds over is TOTALLY uncalled for

Shaw made this weight division just for Diaz and now he can’t make weight? Diaz knows he’s one of Shaw’s poster boys so he dosn’t care. They should send that pot head back to the little leagues.

  4. June 14th, 2008 at 10:22 am Zack Says:

The Sherdog article said that at least Diaz’ opponent was notified ahead of time that Diaz wasn’t going to make weight. It would’ve been cool if Alves & Gina would’ve done the same for their opponents.

  5. June 14th, 2008 at 11:51 am John Says:

I wouldn’t put too much stock in that since he weighed in at 158 for the first weigh in.

Ma I wish circumstances were reversed and IFL was the one thriving and EXC was the one going under. Shaw and EXC have turned MMA into a joke.

  6. June 14th, 2008 at 1:57 pm Ivan Trembow Says:

Two weeks ago, it made EliteXC look bad to have created a weight class (140-pound women) specifically to favor Gina Carano, only to have her fail to make weight to a ridiculous degree.

This weekend, it makes EliteXC look even worse to have created a weight class (160-pound men) specifically to favor Nick Diaz, only to have Diaz fail to make weight to an even more ridiculous degree.

On a separate note, there goes Jay Larkin’s credility as someone with any involvement in the MMA industry. Here’s Larkin in a Conde Nast Portfolio article:

“To me, two guys rolling around on the floor is tedious, like watching gay foreplay.”

You, sir, are in the wrong industry. You would be best served to move on to an industry that you do not find similar to gay foreplay. Please don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

  7. June 14th, 2008 at 9:57 pm Dave Says:

Seriously, there is no reason to get up-in-arms over Nick Diaz not making weight. Nick Diaz being unprofessional is what makes him so incredible. Like that giant pull-apart the Diaz boys caused at the show tonight. You can’t beat that kind of self promotion.

The Diaz boys are just two Stockton thugs who happen to be incredibly gifted fighters. I can only hope that Nick Diaz continues to throw shoes, trash talk, smoke weed, not make weight, cause riots and so on.

  8. June 14th, 2008 at 10:35 pm Ivan Trembow Says:

I said it when TUF 3 was airing and I’ll say it again now: That kind of low-class garbage has no place in this sport. Save the worked pull-aparts for pro wrestling.

  9. June 15th, 2008 at 12:49 am Chuck Says:

Yeah, I thought that pull-apart was a work. even though the Diaz brothers would make great heels. Nate is a little SOB with him flashing gang symbols and the like. I wonder if the guys at Zuffa are pissed or not that not only was Nate at the EXC show, he was part of the biggest angle at the show. Then again, Zuffa did nothing when Quinton Jackson appeared at last year’s EXC/FEG Dynamite show.

  10. June 15th, 2008 at 4:49 am Jeremy (not that Jeremy) Says:

Ivan, did he mean “gay foreplay” in a bad way? Maybe his ideal job is gay porn…

  11. June 16th, 2008 at 9:13 am The Citizen Says:

KJ, when Goldberg asks you what you think of Nick Diaz, all you have to say is “make weight.” I’ve become a KJ Noons fan and I hope he kicks the crap out of Nick Diaz. Nick — get a new gimmick.
