From the desk of the CSAC (3/3)

By Zach Arnold | March 3, 2008

Print Friendly and PDF

The following suspensions have occurred as a result of positive tests for anabolic agents. These samples were obtained after the weigh-in for the Valor Fighting event in San Diego that was scheduled for January 12, 2008. Even though the event was cancelled, these athletes are licensees of the state and can be disciplined for any violation of CSAC rules and regulations.

All of these positive tests have violated Rule 303 – Administration or Use of Drugs.

Carlos Fuentes – Nandrolone measured at 4.4 ng/mL – Suspension in effect from January 11, 2008 through March 30, 2008 plus an additional 286 days after he reapplies for licensure. Fine: $2,500.00

Kyacey Uscola – Nandrolone measured at 9.6 ng/mL – Suspension in effect from January 11, 2008 through January 10, 2009. Fine: $2,500.00

Gustavo Machado – Nandrolone measured at 20.8 ng/mL – Suspension in effect from January 11, 2008 through January 10, 2009. Fine: $2,500.00

In other news…

Fabio Costa, who last competed for Roy Englebrecht Promotions, has tested positive for Marijuana. His suspension runs from the conclusion of the bout on February 20, 2008 through May 20, 2008. He has been fined $500.

These samples were tested three times by Quest Diagnostics in Atlanta, Georgia. Additionally, Mr. Uscola and Mr. Machado’s samples were tested by Laboratoire de controle du dopage in Laval (Quebec), Canada while Mr. Fuentes’ samples were tested two times at the same facility.

Therefore, Machado’s samples were tested four times, Uscola’s samples were tested four times, and Fuentes’ samples were tested five times. Fuentes’ sample was tested one additional time to guarantee that the lower level of nandrolone was consistent with an anabolic agent and not the result of a higher nandrolone level naturally produced in the human body. The final test absolutely confirmed that the 4.4 ng/mL level was consistent with an agent that was anabolic in origin.

Laboratoire de controle du dopage is one of 34 certified WADA testing laboratories in the entire world. There is no higher testing authority recognized anywhere else for anti-doping testing in relation to sports. WADA certified labs test all athletes competing in the Olympics and their associated trials, the NCAA, and the NFL.
