The CSAC has had enough of Carter Williams

By Zach Arnold | January 30, 2008

Print Friendly and PDF

Press release:

Carter Williams, who was previously suspended for a violation of California Code of Regulations, Title 4, Article 6, Section 303 – Administration or Use of Drugs, has had additional time added to his “active” suspension.

Mr. Williams’ suspension was slated to end on December 19, 2007 as long as his $1,000 fine was paid. However, while still serving the 180 day suspension and without paying the $1,000 fine, Mr. Williams participated in an illegal, unregulated event in California. The footage of which was viewed by Commission Staff as it was placed on a popular website. While Mr. Williams did admit to “sparring” at said event, the footage of the event clearly dictates otherwise.

Based on Mr. Williams’ admission to participating in the event, the footage viewed from the popular website, the failure to pay the fine, and all of this occurring while still under active suspension in California, Mr. Williams’ license as an athlete is now suspended through the remainder of his licensing year which expires on May 24, 2008.

Regardless of whether the fine is paid, Mr. Williams will remain on suspension until the license expires. Should he decide to re-apply for licensure in the State of California after the expiration date of the license, he will be placed on the agenda for the next available Commission meeting where he will have an opportunity to appear and to explain his actions. At that time, the Commission will decide whether or not to grant future licensure.

Any idea what this website is and where we can watch this fight? LOL.

This kind of judgement sure sounds strange to me. Are they saying that they no longer will allow this man to use his skills to find work? I mean, I can understand it if he failed a test during his suspension but maybe they should ask themselves why he risked fighting – probably to pay his bills. Its amazing to me that certain fighters who are wealthy and having the full backing of Zuffa can get away with limited suspensions despite still denying their guilt.

Should cheaters be allowed to do as they please just to pay the bills? It seems that Williams needs to seek work elsewhere because he can’t cut it in MMA without doping. :\
